  1. I am not sure what is going on with Thorne but it is very odd that they announced he is back and there hasn't been a single broadcast with him on it remotely. You sign someone to a contract and you don't review what the employee's responsibilities are going to be in the contract or with the employee? Here is your money. We will call you when or if we need you? That is strange.
  2. He came up Saturday for Evan Phillips who was optioned. Hess was only here for the day.
  3. From Roch's article tonight. Update: The Orioles optioned pitcher David Hess after the game. He didn’t pitch tonight. Hyde isn’t ready to announce Sunday’s starter. Perhaps the corresponding move is a factor. The organization has been discussing promoting Dean Kremer to the majors. Stay tuned.
  4. Hyde just said they would announce the starting pitcher tomorrow. I am thinking either Cobb comes off a protocol or maybe Dean Kramer gets the nod. I would think if it was Wojo he would have said tonight.
  5. And that is without of the names of the PTNL. They could bump it up a few notches.
  6. You stay in constant rebuild mode when the rebuild's continue to fail. They haven't drafted or developed enough good players to be good for any sustained period of time. I think Peter Angelos had a lot to do with that. Especially the abandoning of acquiring International players. We essentially have new ownership even though their last name is the same. This feels different to me. Time will tell.
  7. This seems to be a nice return on Givens without knowing the player to be named later. These two guys look like real nice prospects. It adds a pretty good middle infield prospect which was needed and just reading what Elias says a AAA level 1B in Nevin.
  8. Glad you are back. Been going through withdrawal. LOL
  9. I would like to see Mountcastle moved up to batting 2nd right now with Santander batting 3rd. To me Ryan will see more fastballs ahead of one of the hottest hitters in baseball.
  10. LeBlanc just left the game with an injury. Who will it be taking his place. Akin or Kremer? Just from the comments by Elias yesterday I am thinking Kremer may get the first shot.
  11. Smith can pinch hit. In that role only he has some value. Occasionally DH maybe but he should never play the field.
  12. Tony, you are just happy Haney or Vinnie didn't ask you on your segment today, "What about Chris Davis". LOL. In a side note the other Khris Davis with the A's is turning into the Orioles Chris Davis.
  13. Sorry but this argument just doesn't hold water. People just don't give up more money because they simply have enough. Yes it is more than most need but that isn't for you are I to say. In his mind he has earned that money in the past when he was getting less because he couldn't go to another team. That is how his agent thinks and the players association.
  14. Absolutely. Severino needs to make that play. You can't get on Davis for that one.
  15. Dwight Smith running through that stop sign, not reading the base hit correctly bugs me more than anything. You should know how to run the bases even if you can't field a lick. He can hit a little but I don't want that guy on my team. He has zero future. I would rather play Mullins everyday out there when Hayes comes back. Probably time to look at Mountcastle. Frustrating loss that was. Severino needs to make that play as well but he gets a mulligan.
  16. Why would he or anyone else take a buyout?
  17. It looks like the manager has come to the same conclusion as the rest of us. Because of the reasons Frobby has pointed out in this thread he most likely will stay on the roster. If they end up canceling any more of this year and/or any of next it would mean a significant financial savings.
  18. There is no comparison to the two players. Mullins is a very good outfielder and is going to be needed to play CF most days while Hayes is out. I don't have great expectations that he Mullins can hit at the major league level but I don't think there is a final judgement on that. That can't be said about Chris Davis. He is finished. You can live with a weak Mullins bat in the lineup for his defense as long as you don't handicap yourself playing Davis everyday. Again like I said in the initial post in this thread you have a clear choice in Sisco and Davis and it shouldn't be a difficult choice. Maybe Sisco proves in the next couple of weeks he can't deliver either but he has done enough to earn a chance.
  19. Well I guess that makes sense that they never anticipated a season having much less than the normal 162 games when writing long-term contracts. Like many things from this strange season I will bet this will lead to future contracts being written differently. I guess until they know this Covid doesn't effect the next season that will influence whether or not to cut someone with a large contract. All that being said with 28 players on the roster he just shouldn't play any longer.
  20. So if they cut him last year and they only played 60 games this year the Orioles would have had to pay him his full salary for this year even though there were only 60 games to the season? I am asking because I don't know but I would think they would still prorate this year on his contract based on how many games are played in the season. I would think if you cut him now and next season they play 100 games he would only get paid for that portion of the contract but I don't know.
  21. I know most people believe there has been no reason to play Chris Davis for a long time now. However where the Orioles are today in this version of Covid-Baseball there is ZERO reason any longer. It has been 20 games and Chris Davis is hitting .136 after 1/3 of the season with one RBI. Pedro Severino is going to play most days. His bat has earned that. Chance Sisco's bat has earned him a long look in the lineup as well. So he needs to play DH or 1B on the days a week he isn't catching. Nunez needs to play everyday. He has more than earned that. He has to play either DH or 1B. Nunez hasn't been terrible at 1B. This team is a playoff contender right now. Your choice is to play Sisco or Chris Davis right now. Is there really any choice at this point? Also even though Austin Hayes hasn't lit it up hitting yet his absence from the lineup everyday makes the lineup weaker with either Mullins or Velaquez. Pretty much one of them has to play because they are the only ones that can play CF.
  22. Please no more Jim Hunter EVER. Joe Angel is retired. I expect Gary and Jim back next year. I agree with Frobby and Tony. I think the new crew has done very well under trying circumstances. You are sitting in an empty stadium watching a TV calling play by play. Ben McDonald is great. I hope Brian Roberts comes back next year. I like Melanie Newman. Like Tony says she knows baseball. She can work on her excitement at times but these are all new people she is working with again under unusual conditions. Scott is fine. Maybe I am unobjective because I know he is such a good guy but I think that comes through during the broadcast much like it does with Gary Thorne. I like that this regime of the Orioles made changes in response to what fans told them. They tried to make the presentation better and I think they have very much overall. I am sure they will tweek the changes and make it even better.
  23. I would also take a look at him at first base. With Mancini out for the year let him play 6 days a week. A couple at catcher and the rest at 1B. See if his bat can hold up.
  24. I doubt that Rutchman will be there on opening day next year but the rest of it looks not bad. Don't look now but the two catchers on the team right now are doing pretty well offensively.
