  1. I think McCann is the man until Handley is ready to be back up. Can’t see them spending much on C.
  2. Kjeratad. I want to see someone hit the warehouse before I die.
  3. Late May was after his “initial approach”. Attacking pitches early in the count was what he did to counter the league trying to sneak strike 1 on him. His approach is fine, he should not change. That wouldn’t be foolish.
  4. I think it’s more a function of what they are teaching. They are rewarded for taking balls and they are dinged (in post game reports) for swinging at balls out of the zone. In 1 game….or 2,or 3, or 4 they might look silly (strike 3 runner on third last night) but over the course of the season/career the pitch recognition will pay dividends and the good will far outweigh the bad. The Yankees use a diamond chart inside the strike zone (an acquaintance of mine is in their system). Players are dinged for swing at STRIKES located in corners (imagine a diamond inside a square) with less than two strikes. After every game they are given a chart with location of pitches they swing at. They keep a team leaderboard and reward the guys at the top of the board.
  5. How date you bring stats & facts into an emotional argument. Tisk Tisk.
  6. You are advocating for him to go away from what ultimately got him to MLB? That sounds like a recipe for disaster. (See GRod). Seems to me following Gunnar’s initial approach should lead to success (as it did for Gunnar).
  7. Fangraphs disagrees with that assessment. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/colton-cowser/29591/stats?position=OF 55 Speed 55 Defense 50 Raw Power 50 Game Power 45 Hit
  8. Here’s the thing: baseball is hard. Professional evaluators look at skillsets, approach, and how a player deals with adversity, not results.
  9. Another laugher tonight(after the 8th inning…..was a 2-1 game and they put up 10 in last two innings). 12-1 victory with 14 hits. HRs by Mayo, Handley, & Lester. 1st Norfolk HR for Handley & Mayo Mayos HR had about the longest hang time you’ll see.
  10. Watch his last AB and tell me he has no power. Caught out in front of an LH curve and flicked a ball off the RCF fence for a double. 2/3 so far tonight. The kid is special. He makes the game look slow. Simple efficient movements.

    Jud Fabian 2023

Fabian just hit an absolute tank job over the scoreboard in LF @ Bowie 107EV 419’
  12. Not gonna happen. But if not did, I’d buy a Jersey and go to all remaining home games I’m still giddy from watching him nearly hit for the cycle and dominate us on the mound. Never seen anything like it (duh).
  13. I agree and that’s Something that hasn’t been mentioned much. I remember 2 ABs from Gunnar, Adley, and Santander each where they swing at ball 4 with less than 2 strikes. The offense got a little impatient and away from what they do well, which is passing the baton.
  14. Tipping pitches. Arm slot/delivery different depending on pitch. Terrible secondary pitch.
  15. Señor Basallo no está de acuerdo contigo.
  16. Huh? His fastball sits 98 and his CU is 86/87. He throws his CU arm side with arm side movement. He throws his slider glove side with glove side movement. You have completely lost me.
  17. He got ahead of the majority of batters he faced. 11 in a row at one point. He was throwing 101mph. His change up was unhittable. He induced a lot of weak contact.
  18. I wouldn’t be against it that if he isn’t able to put up consistent starts by the end of the season. He still has 11 weeks to work things out.
  19. Covering 100 & 87 out of the same tunnel is a big ask for batters. Definitely something to work with. When he gets a 3rd pitch going he’s going to be extremely tough.
  20. I’ve been watching him pitch for years now and honestly can’t recollect him hitting 101 multiple times. I think after watching the first inning it was predictable he wouldn’t go deep. He was a man on a mission to prove a point. Will be interesting to see how he pitches inning 1 next go round.
  21. I agree. I think the batters eliminated the slider/curve and were able to look FB while trying to avoid the CU.
  22. Broadcast mentioned (in 4th or 5th) he had gotten ahead of 11 straight batters. 10 whiffs. Not terrible, but not great. His slider was off a bit. Was throwing the CU to righties in its place.
  23. He pitched inning 1 like inning 9 of WS game 7. Had a feeling he was going to run out of gas. That said, his stuff was pretty electric. He missed a few pitches badly, but overall was making pitches he needed to. If the D makes plays he pitches 6 innings and gives up 1 or 2 runs against a top shelf offense. I don’t see how anyone could be anything but encouraged by his outing.
