That is because Fangraphs uses bogus WAR to rate pitchers. Since he only strikes out 7 batters per 9 innings Means loses WAR from fanagraphs. As WAR is supposed to be used to tell how well you did and isn't a predictive tool for future seasons it is a really awful way to judge Wins Above Replacement.
We don’t often agree but we do here. I hate the way some of these metrics evaluate pitchers. I’ll never be convinced there isn’t some ability in inducing weak contact.

Didn’t he specifically say in his interview that he wasn’t?
Plenty of disgruntled former employees would say the same, regardless of whether it’s true. People don’t like to be fired.

I don't think the Os are any billion dollar company, they were basically inactive for years, Elias has been here what 9 months? Future, sure, I think ME will do.what he needs to be successful.
Look at what the Royals sold for

I think if there’s one thing we can develop it’s power hitters. Probably a fluky occurrence but stranger things have happened

Without Means the O's would have a much better chance at the top draft pick next year.
With a team that appears to need a couple of years to be good enough for a .500 record, I'd rather have the higher draft picks.
Well that’s stupid. He’s a lot more valuable than the difference between 1 & 2.

If anyone tries to put him in a MASN commercial this winter, their head should be on a pike outside the warehouse.

Is it safe to walk from Oriole Park to bus station at 2110 Haines Street after a night game? If not, is there taxi service available at the stadium? I'd hate to use a taxi, Uber, Lyft - it seems like it's a short one mile walk. Would appreciate some advice. Thank you.
Yes it’s safe

I go back and forth with '12 and '89. I never thought there'd be another '89, then there was.
But '99 Virginia Tech football is right there, too. And I'm not even that big of a football fan any more.
It probably says something about me that my top three teams (and nobody else is remotely close) didn't go home with the trophy.
That 2010 Auburn team is the only one I’ve ever had win it all. I’ll maintain the 2014 Orioles were the best MLB team though.

Talent wise that's certainly debatable, but in terms of results and output of talent, making the playoffs and getting as far as they did saved the '96 team from being the biggest underachiever in team history. There's no reason a team with the talent they had should've needed till the last day of the season to wrap up the wild card, but they got themselves in a deep rut to dig out of. I say all that and the nostalgia of the team still resonates, but it's very much overshadowed by the '97, '12, and '14 teams.
The 2012 team might be my favorite sports team of all time. Right up there with 2010 Auburn football

My dad, a big Tigers fan, retired this year and went for three weeks. I went for a week and had a great time. Only saw one game in Sarasota (another got rained out) but we went around central Florida seeing different stadiums. It’s so fun that you see a game in the day then have the rest of the day free. We’re going back next year

I doubt Mountcastle gets called up. Hays is 50/50. I don’t care at all when/if Wilkerson, Smith or Peterson play. I’d be ok with this OF getting the majority of starts:
LF Santander
CF Williams
RF Hays

It looked like he was getting some cutter movement on a few FB. Don’t know if that’s because he was bringing his arm across or if it was natural movement.

I don't know man, putting three outfielders out there at once seems kinda risky.
With our pitching we could experiment with 4 OF.

I was wrong on that. Last ten we’re 1-9, they are 3-6.
Det 37-83
Bal 39-84 1.5GB
.317 Winning %. On pace for 53-111
If we could win 53 games AND get the first pick, I’d consider that ideal.
I think you mean 53-109 though.

I think Stewart's playing time could be limited soon. Hays is having a good offensive August which means is probably get a call up. Williams has been playing well for months and the O's may want to see him before the season is over. Both are better defensive players than Stewart.
C Severino
1B Mancini
2B Villar
SS Martin
3B Alberto
LF Stewart
CF Hays
RF Santander
DH Nunez
There’s room for Hays while giving Stewart regular time.

Just watched his debut. Damn that’s an electric arm. He’s the next Britton, if he’s healthy.
Also, love the mullet!!

Peterson. Seems obvious

Yep I want more Gwynns and Ichiros

ROY- Means or Alvarez?

It just seems intuitive. There’s usually a thin line between a ball missing a bat and hitting off the end or edge.
Does fangraphs differentiate between a ball hit off the top of the wall and one hit weakly back to the mound? At least in an FIP sense?
