When the Astros trashcan beating scandal broke, I took the absolute silence from other teams (not players, teams) as an admission of guilt that they were doing illegal things, too.

  2. Like others have said, I just don’t see the upside. He’s an average starting SS when focused. He seems to have behavioral issues beyond being a wife beater (doesn’t know the signs). Everyone doesn’t have to be a saint, but if they’re a real POS like this guy’s actions indicate they better be Mike Trout level good before I consider them.

I know it's splitting hairs at 75 & 88, but I don't understand why Ryan would be #88 when he's younger than most and had a great year in AAA.

5 in the Top 100 is very nice to see..

Defense. All his value is with the bat, and it doesn’t appear elite.

  4. Obviously it’s a stupid rule. The NCAA is full of them. I hope some team abuses it to the point where they have to change it.

That said, it’s not the reason we lost. I’m proud that we hung in there against the best team I’ve seen all year. If our QB could get his nerves together on the road, we’d be 8-0 and staring down the playoffs.

Totally agree.  After losing big for two years and accumulating  high draft choices in 2012, 2013,  June of 2014 Jeff Luhnow was ready to spend some money  in the rebuild after the 2013 season..   The would be equivalent  to  Elias spending after losing  2019 and 2020.

Are we still doing that thing where we can only project Oriole moves based on what Houston did? That’s really tired and illogical.

Agree there’s nothing wrong with it.   Saying that, Trumbo had a .275 average in the minors, Mountcastle is .295.    Mountcastle has played each level younger than Trumbo did, and generally, the minor leagues the West Coast prospects play in tend to be more hitter friendly than the ones Mountcastle played in.     For all those reasons, I think Mountcastle will hit for a higher average than Trumbo.    That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be a better overall hitter or player.    I’m hoping he will be, but if he has Trumbo’s career, that’s far from a terrible outcome.

I just added up his time in the Angels minor league system and got an average of .288

Trumbo also has the better walk rate, though it’s still nothing spectacular. Good points about age of level and hitters leagues.

The biggest jump into the top 30 has to be Stauffer, right? Probably close to top 15 now?

    1 Rutschman
    2 DL Hall
    3 Hays
    4 Mouncastle
    5 Rodriguez
    6 Henderson
    7 Kremer
    8 Harvey
    9 Diaz
    10 Baumann

    Id probably say:

    1. Rutschman

    2. Hall

    3. Rodriguez

    4. Hays

    5. Diaz

    6. Mountcastle

    7. Kremer

    8. Harvey

    9. Henderson

    10. Lowther

I think there is a very good chance that the O's win the Machado and Britton trades as well.  But some of the O's players will have to perform for that to happen.

The O's traded 2 1/2 months of Manny's service time for  Diaz, Kremer, Bannon and Pop.  Those 4 have to accumulate enough playing time and value in the majors to equal Manny service time with the Dodgers.  Manny helped the Dodgers get to the WS even if they did lose there.  The Dodgers did get some significant value from Manny.  Bur the O's were never going to pay Manny 10/300m.

The O's also traded a little over 2 months of Brittons service time for Carroll, Tate and Rogers.  So the O's have to get at least that much value at the major league level from those three players to win the trade.    The Yankees won a wild card spot but lost in the Division series.    However O's were not going to sign Britton to an extension or as a free agent.  Not with Boras as his agent.

The O’s knew they’d never pay him 10/300, so why didn’t they trade him earlier? When they could get better value.

I’m sure this has been settled but why would we be trading any of them? You don’t trade prospects for prospects, and we’re not looking for established big league players.

Anyway, I’m sure this has been settled.

I agree that it seems intuitive.  That is why it was such a big honking deal when Voros McCracken released his research.

I wonder if exit velocity and ground ball percentage could have been thoroughly looked at then. Also, a study failing to find a correlation isn’t the same as disproving an idea.
