  1. I think this is the pessimistic view on what he is saying. I think they view prospects as potentially large uncertainty windows and by sticking more with college bats they feel they have identified talent with less uncertainty. They prefer guys where they know more what they are getting themselves into, vs guys that sure may have higher upside but they may just flame out too. I think just disparaging that as "comfort over who they think is BPA" is not exactly fair.
  2. In the dialog that Melewski shared yesterday with Ciolek they definitely dropped some hints (imo) as to why they tend to lean a bit more towards bats....and especially COLLEGE bats. Seems to me they are just a lot more comfortable with the data they have on those batters vs pitchers. In case people missed it (emphasis mine): “Bottom line, we’re looking to take the best available player, and granted there is a lot of data and analytic insights with the college bat demographic that we feel very strongly and comfortable with. So we went ahead and made sure to target those guys early and often through the top 10 rounds. “It’s one of those things where we always have pitchers lined up, you know, up and down our board, and ultimately we have to make a decision and take the risk into account. But we will be looking extensively at some arms tomorrow.”
  3. He hit something like .250 in college this year..... will be curious to hear what Elias has to say about this kid.
  4. Over 1.000 OPS so far in the month of July (not including another 2 for 5 today). At over 150 PA in Aberdeen now............should we be expecting a promotion soon?
  5. Kinda nice to see WAS, BOS, and HOU at the bottom of the list.
  6. As I said elsewhere, i think there must be some therapeutic benefit for people to keep bringing it up over and over again when they know the path forward is already all but decided. Now I likely will not participate in that discussion anymore, but I hope they get the benefit they are seeking.
  7. Seems to me that exit velocity stats would just standardize all of this educated guessing. Not sure if that is publicly available for minor leaguers......I would imagine it isn't.
  8. Ok glad to see he's ready! Time to promote him since it is clearly in the best interest of the player. ?
  9. Is Mundy the best pure bat in our system right now other than Rutschman? If not then who. Curious for any other thoughts on Mundy in general.
  10. Just a few minor nitpicks for accuracy. Kevin Smith is at Norfolk now. JD Mundy is at Aberdeen......Gunnar also. Jahmai Jones should be at AAA.
  11. Update on this. Closing in on 250 PA at AA..... 15 HR looking like a bit of a stretch. 12 is absolutely possible, he has 2-3 games left. ADLEY - .276/.408/.495/.902 through 239 PA at AA. 11 HR, 40 BB, 36 K's. IMPORTANT CAVEAT: I do not necessarily believe that if Adley hits worse than Wieters in AA then he is destined to hit worse than Matt also in MLB. The game has changed some in the last decade plus. But I do think context is important, I do think we need to manage our expectations. And I do think we can say now that Adley isn't exactly forcing anyone's hand at this point. He is playing well overall, and I do hope they bump him up to Norfolk soon.
  12. Maybe this means for Elias and friends that for them 2022 is go time? And they dont want to do anything to potentially jeopardize his availability for next April?
  13. You guys know Adley is going to AAA later this year right and will be up in 2022? Is constantly reminding us you oppose that decision therapeutic for you all in some way?

Are we talking about the same Matt Harvey? I certainly hope what you say will come to pass......
  15. 7 HR so far in 14 games. OPS of 1.095 so far, which is BETTER than he had in Delmarva. Let's hope they don't keep him at Aberdeen for very long.
  16. It was a pleasure seeing him in person. Showed a clear command of the zone and hit the ball with authority every AB i saw.
  17. What a game. Lot of craziness. Left after 10 pm after the 7th inning. Lots of scoring and there was a super long delay from a fan getting hit with a foul ball and then carried out on a stretcher. Peralta: Unfortunately i didnt locate the radar gun until after he was removed. He struggled with control and the contact off of him was pretty loud. Really disappointing. Also, i saw him loosen his belt and act like he was going to take his pants off when the umps came to check him on his way out for foreign substances.....so i guess that is a world we live in now. Rutschman: Looked impressive. Obviously the HR in the first was amazing. He had another deep fly ball that almost went out....and he had a lined shot towards the 3-4 hole that i believe the 1b was able to stab. Saw him throw out a runner too. Welk and Stowers also presented themselves well. Welk showed real patience at the plate. Stowers made great contact. Luis Perez let up most of the damage other than Peralta. He looked good early but then in his 3rd inning of work i guess it was....the wheels came undone super fast. Then his replacement came in and struck out the side. All in all i had a really nice time and hope to go back again this year. We will have to see.
  18. I'm pretty disappointed the Diamondbacks won a game after losing 17 straight. That might have been less embarrassing if they had lost just a few more........
  19. Weather permitting, I will be at the Baysox game tonight! And it looks like Peralta will be the starter. He is the 17th ranked O's prospect as per the Hangout rankings. 4 starts in Bowie so far this year. 24.2 IP, 32 K's, 2.55 ERA, and a 1.176 WHIP to this point. Will report on what I see with him and whatever hitters I can.
  20. JC we wanted to see you fly. And fly you did.......maybe a little too close to the sun. ?
  21. It should not be a goal unto itself, but it is clearly a sign that things are going well with your system if your affiliates are constantly successful, see Tampa and NY. And if your teams are consistently terrible you probably don't have a lot of prospects to be excited about.
  22. On the contrary, let me tell you all a tale. It's an impressive tale. A tale of a man who has run the gambit of all the levels of the minor leagues quite possibly faster than anyone else in the history of professional baseball. I am speaking of course of the tale of JC Encarnacion the indomitable. Pull up a chair, sit around the campfire, and enjoy this inspiring story, that seems too strange to be true, but I give you every assurance that it is! He begins 2021 on May the 5th at Delmarva, Low A. After a mere FOUR games, he is promoted to High A Aberdeen, it is now May the 11th. After only TWO games there, he catapults up to Bowie.......it is now May 19th. How many games did he need there before the jump to AAA? If you guessed 3 or 4, you would be wrong. It only took TWO again. On June 2nd, he was in AAA. That is FOUR levels in less than 30 days. FOUR levels after 8 games played all year. This is the tale of the one and only JC Encarnacion. Everyone please stop and enjoy this ride will it lasts...............there is no telling when we will see another meteoric rise such as this.
