  1. I meant they made a mint off the sale. No idea how much profit it was or would be generating if they had kept it.
  2. Guys? Odds are good the Dodgers will be just fine even if he gets injured. Honestly it all comes off as sour grapes. If our team was spending like this does this thread get made? Was anyone in Oriole land complaining back in the 90's when the O's had the highest payroll?
  3. Why do you think so? You don't think he'll bring in enough revenue to pay for his deal? You think the Guggenheim Partners are going to end up in a bad way because of this deal? There was what, three other teams willing to match the deal?
  4. They also get additional revenue. I don't think John minds the Dodgers paying into a fund he profits from.
  5. The only real issue I see on the horizon is the cable bubble popping. If the TV revenue takes a dive it could cause some short term distress for unprepared teams. We've already seen it with the Padres.
  6. I don't think anything is broken. Folks were complaining about how much money players were getting int he 1890's.
  7. Peter went from signing Davis to not making decisions pretty quickly. I don't think the Davis deal had any impact on him. 300 Million? No. Why would you need to?
  8. You have no evidence that the Davis contract is in any way responsible for how John is spending.
  9. Joe stayed in Minnesota. If Votto leaves Cini I don't blame Cini.
  10. Quick google shows only 52 of 100 of the largest US cities have shown population growth from 2010-2020.
  11. I'm sure someone will manage to be offended. The top four are a very impressive group of young players. I'd say it is still too early to tell who the greatest of them will be.
  12. I would think at NBA salary levels it would still have some appeal.
  13. They aren't always about money. When Ohtani went to the LAAoA do you think they had the highest bid? Because they didn't. I think you are overestimating how much loyalty players have for their employers. If you are all about the money and the Orioles can offer as much as the Yankees or Dodgers why stay in Baltimore when you can make more money (endorsements), be more famous and have a better chance of winning if you leave? If I'm young and rich and can live in any of the cities with ML baseball teams I ain't picking Baltimore.
  14. Do you think players should have the freedom to choose what team they play for?
  15. Cy Young won the most games, is he the greatest pitcher?
  16. The main thing keeping Gunnar from staying an Oriole is Angelos. It's pretty offensive to me to suggest that payroll should be kept at such a level that the Orioles, who are unwilling to spend, can keep their free agents because no one else will be allowed to pay them more. The problem isn't the teams spending, it's the teams not spending.
  17. As opposed to Cleveland being well....Cleveland and losing out to Miami for Lebron? It's just a shame when players have a choice for which team they want to play, makes a man wish for the reserve clause!
  18. I don't watch the NBA but you put stick me in a room and tell me I have to watch one of the NBA, NASCAR or FIFA I'm taking the NBA. Guys driving in a circle for 500 miles, whoohoo.
  19. It's shocking how badly the Knicks are run that they can't become a destination spot for players.
