  1. Good question and I'm going to dodge it because I don't feel like doing the work to answer it. I can't think of any team leaving a guy that could be a 3+ Win player in the minors.
  2. 34.5% of 17th overall picks don't even make the majors.
  3. Folks have weirdly high standards for prospects.
  4. Sure, and if he's "that guy" they are going to manage one of those assets out of town to make room for him. Leaving him in the minors isn't getting you the most value.
  5. First off we are talking about RoY manipulation, there is a gap between RoY winner and failed prospect. Honestly if he ends up being a fourth outfielder/defensive specialist in the majors than he hasn't "failed". Folks have weirdly high standards for prospects.
  6. I'm not a fan of them either but with his glove if he is "tearing it up" he needs to be in the majors. Trent Grisham had a 666 OPS for a 87 OPS+ last year and was still worth 2 Wins because of his glove. Pair that with an above average bat and his stolen base potential? You don't leave that at Norfolk.
  7. If a plus centerfielder is tearing it up you find room for him. You aren't going to have four guys that are more valuable taking spots.
  8. Do I need to remote into your PC and fix your repeating post issue?
  9. Assuming they get a bit of a boost from the Korean market he's only has to produce at a 2 win rate for the deal to break even. He's under contract for his age 25-30 seasons. A plus defense Center Fielder that makes a lot of contact and can run should be able to manage that.
  10. I don't think he has to hit a ton to be worth the deal. FWIW Fangraphs is projecting him at 3 WAR for 2024 and I think they are underselling his stolen bases (they have him at 6 for 9).
  11. Why should the media favor the Yankees? They've had two RoY since 1982. For the record the Mariners have had five. Did you think Judge wasn't a worthy selection? What about Jeter in '96? This fascination with the Yankees is just nonsense.
  12. I don't. I'd have been fine with him in center for the O's.
  13. The question I have is does O'Hearn have much in the way of trade value?
  14. If he's eligible in 2026, he ain't winning it.
  15. I think optimizing your roster to win games is more important than trying to win an extra draft pick. There have been quite the batch of really talented players vying for RoY in recent history.
  16. Alex Rodriguez had an 822 OPS in the playoffs(973 in his one WS), Brooks had a 785. In four WS appearances Brooks had an OPS of 695/103/1238/689. Yes, Brooks absolutely went off in the 1970 WS but where was he in '69? So what's the difference between Arod and Brooks?
  17. The story goes that Buck, when Mountcastle was still in the minors, told him he had to walk more and Mountcastle basically blew him off. I have no idea if he ever tried telling Jones and Schoop that.
  18. Am I reading this wrong? I'm seeing a lot more games pitched than games started. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=fujina000shi
  19. He's an OH whipping boy because he doesn't walk enough and has cold streaks and talked back to Buck that one time and have you seen that goofy smile of his?
  20. So a guy has command issues in the NPB and MLB. Somehow the issue is mechanical in Japan but confidence in the US? Can you walk me through your thought process and feel free to skip over you thinking he looks uncomfortable on the mound unless you have evidence he never looked that way in his NPB days. My take is that he's never been able to consistently command his stuff and he probably won't ever get there.
