  1. I'm sure someone will manage to be offended. The top four are a very impressive group of young players. I'd say it is still too early to tell who the greatest of them will be.
  2. I would think at NBA salary levels it would still have some appeal.
  3. They aren't always about money. When Ohtani went to the LAAoA do you think they had the highest bid? Because they didn't. I think you are overestimating how much loyalty players have for their employers. If you are all about the money and the Orioles can offer as much as the Yankees or Dodgers why stay in Baltimore when you can make more money (endorsements), be more famous and have a better chance of winning if you leave? If I'm young and rich and can live in any of the cities with ML baseball teams I ain't picking Baltimore.
  4. Do you think players should have the freedom to choose what team they play for?
  5. Cy Young won the most games, is he the greatest pitcher?
  6. The main thing keeping Gunnar from staying an Oriole is Angelos. It's pretty offensive to me to suggest that payroll should be kept at such a level that the Orioles, who are unwilling to spend, can keep their free agents because no one else will be allowed to pay them more. The problem isn't the teams spending, it's the teams not spending.
  7. As opposed to Cleveland being well....Cleveland and losing out to Miami for Lebron? It's just a shame when players have a choice for which team they want to play, makes a man wish for the reserve clause!
  8. I don't watch the NBA but you put stick me in a room and tell me I have to watch one of the NBA, NASCAR or FIFA I'm taking the NBA. Guys driving in a circle for 500 miles, whoohoo.
  9. It's shocking how badly the Knicks are run that they can't become a destination spot for players.
  10. Salary caps are good for owners, salary floors are good for players. Hard to say if either are good for fans.
  11. And they traded for Lillard because they know if Giannis gets unhappy he'll demand a trade, despite being under contract. If that happens it will be to a select handful of teams Giannis approves up, which won't include the Wizards.
  12. You think the Wizards have the same chance to win as the Lakers, Celtics or Heat? Do you follow the NBA?
  13. Quality of play improves over time. You put Ruth in the box against Ohtani and he strikes out. You put Ruth on the mound against Ohtani and it's batting practice. If your view is the best today is the best ever, Ohtani has it. Is anyone saying Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest of all time? He played in the '60's! Obviously if you are adjusting for era and all that it changes things, but if your chosen criteria doesn't account for that...it's a valid take. If you could drop anyone onto the 2023 Orioles are you saying you'd take 1923 Ruth?
  14. I'd much rather all the owners just pocket their profits instead of spending it on players. How dare a few go and make the rest look bad like that!
  15. Well sure, Yamamoto, I meant my theoretical could have been obtainable preference.
  16. We've got a thread that is 2150 pages. We ain't seeing this get to 33k replies.
  17. I was referring to the pitcher's salary.
  18. There is value in a guy that can be a reliable rotation member at a reasonable price. Even rebuilding teams need them.
  19. I've used ephedra, nasty stuff. The main issue is you can't trust the manufacturing, any given bottle might have a much lower or higher dose than what is listed. It's been banned in the US since 2004.
  20. That's OK. I'm not even advocating for the trade, just saying it can make sense. I don't think he will put up 12 wins. Eight? Well he put up 8.6 rWAR and 8.1 fWAR over the last two seasons so I think eight is in reach.
