You don't buy into what? That the Verducci effect was debunked? A lot more goes into things than some simplistic innings chart. The stress of the innings appear to matter more than the number of innings. Obviously I'm not advocating abusing guys but Lowther shouldn't be under some arbitrary innings cap.

I'll disagree. They were a team that went on a late season winning streak to hit .500. I'll give you average, since they did end up at 500.

If that 2015 team had lost one more game so many folks would have to change their arguments. Who, at the time, would have thought that "meaningless" five game winning streak to end the season would end up so important? Folks act like the 2015 team was good, they weren't.

I wasn't denigrating them. I'm just saying a season like that isn't going to be as meaningful to a fanbase of a team that experiences an average or higher level of success.

True, a fanbase that had experienced an even average level of success wouldn't have thought 2012 was more than just a good story season. Hey we snuck into the playoffs in a year we were supposed to be pretty bad, nice.

I enjoyed that era but it doesn't make up for all the really bad baseball we've seen before and since. What was so frustrating for me is that it was so easy to see this most recent crash coming and the team did nothing to avert it.

Yes, realistically, since we know they won't spend any money and will game the service time of anything approaching an actual prospect. But I'm waiting for that to get pushed back yet another year after the 2022 season is compromised by labor uncertainty.
