I have no reason to think that ownership has ever entertained the idea of signing Rutschman to a long term deal. I don't recall them ever extending a player before they hit arbitration.

I also don't buy the But it's the AL East it's different argument. Frobby has shown us, more than once, that the unbalanced schedule doesn't make that big a difference. Might it be a bit harder to win the division? Sure, but to field a competitive team and make the playoffs? Not really, not enough to justify an additional year or more of intentional non-competitiveness.

I liked Bedard, word is his teammates liked him. Thing is he didn't suffer fools so the media didn't care for him. So very much of our opinions about players is filtered through the media.

I think he's more likely to be traded when players like Diaz and Milk Carton Lad make it to the majors. No great insight, I just think he gets lost in the roster squeeze.

Folks act as if they never produced players from the International market. It wasn't the total black hole folks like to proclaim. (Not calling you out for it but others). And seriously, you hit on seven #1 picks and have them all in your system at once, including a 1-1 and a 1-2 and yea, that alone should get you 12th out of 30. Thing is they didn't hit on all seven and don't have a real 1-2.

Having a 1-1, a 1-2 and five more former first round picks all eligible for the list should help.
