    Vs. LHP

The narrative is built around reality not matching expectations with a short-term focus. In other words, it's human nature.
  2. Lol a full page of highlights!
  3. I haven't gone through the pitch mix year-over-year at the game level. But if this is true, then it's moving from a "let's work on your pitches" approach to "let's focus on sequencing and how to be a pitcher". The next few months should be interesting for Cade.
  4. Why would that matter? To shame Elias into promoting them?

    Vs. LHP

Much of the angst has need around the relative lack of offense. Especially over the lat 4 games. 3 out of 7 games has been again LHP SPs. 2 of the last 4 have been vs. Detmers and Ragans. And they may be among the best LHP in the AL at the end of the season (between Framber, Rodon?, Heaney?, McClanahan?). Our offense seems to struggle vs. LHP. Vs RHP - .752 OPS as a team Vs LHP - .588 OPS as a team https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=BAL&year=2024 We're dealing with VERY small sample sizes. But a case can be made for a stout lefty masher. Because Gunnar's stats vs. LHP are terrible (25 total PAs on the season. 11 vs. LHP. Not a normal ratio.) So are Hays, Westburg and Urias. Mullins has been a joke vs. LhP but has been benched a lot vs. them too. Adley, Santander, and Mateo are strong. Mounty has been a RHP masher and average vs. LHP. If we're looking for SSS sacrificial lambs, then yeah vs. LHP is the starting spot. But let's also recognize that we won't face this amount of LHP usually. Nor this degree of talented LHP. And those who have been bad, aren't this bad. Still something to follow.
  6. Shades of 2023 in that one. Great finish! Norfolk hitters looking good tonight too!
  7. Lol, Callis and Mayo are reading the room completely different for each one!
  8. Wade Miley, Braxton Garrett, Kyle Hendrickson, Jose Quintana... a ton of solid #3-4 type LHP who barely touch 90 MPH. And I think Povich spins it better than most too. His level of success will be highly correlated to his command.
  9. In a previous one he suspects NYY is teaching max spin/movement (sweepers, etc) but not tunneling, angle of entry, and other ways to develop pitching. He suspects it's chasing metrics vs. developing an actual MLB pitcher. It'll be in to see how some of their recently traded pitchers play out. He said something similar about LAD but not quite to that extreme. Great to get on the podium with big media/voter markers! But I wonder if it's truly about our pitching development or coasting in the overall development tailwinds...
  10. Correct, 10% of 70 seasons is better than 4%. But his 20% is a better sample size than either. (And of course, variables like injuries/PEDs in 2005 and late ROY candidates in 2022 matter. And lies, damn lies, and stats is a thing too.)
  11. Thanks for putting this together! Cool website feature. Adley's throw was perfect. Urias got beat on a tough hit across his body/down - no shame there. Mounty and Santa! Love the hustle and passion!
  12. A statistically meaningful sample size 10%. If you have a really big population, you can shoot for 5%.
  13. I think Gunnar has a longer run with 100+ OPS+. Witt probably has the higher peak years. I'll take Gunnar's defense/arm at SS too.
  14. Mounty looks dialed in so far and the offense looks deep (and more on the way)! I fully realize there's an emotional wind in my sails, but... If 2023 was about the nuance of winning (matchups and bullpen use), 2024 looks like a team that will just bring the sticks. Some of the nuance will carryover for sure, but these guys can hit!
  15. A few names I don't recognize, but I think you're reading the trend correctly. To add on a bit: It also has to do with the O's drafting college heavy (vs HS) in the state-side amateur draft.
  16. I enjoyed watching Hammer pitch. Small, high effort guy. Great RP name too! Max Costes is a local guy who seems like a great clubhouse guy. I hope they are both still around.
  17. I'm sure you'll get some stragglers, so there's still hope! Serves me right for believing you!

So many different angles to this one... I'll focus on player selection: Character matters. https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/mets-mark-vientos-rhys-hoskins-video-instagram/630861 Sounds like the org atmosphere is dicey at best.
  20. Was that the one that fell in front of Santander? Better speed and a good jump may have had a diving chance on that. Especially since Cedric was there for the backup. Not to fuel the Cowser calls, but a dreamer wonders...
  21. He would have had him but... not the right situation to do that with 2 outs. Fine with 0 or 1 out.
