  1. I agree. The coddling and obsession about pitch counts seemingly do little to prevent TJ surgeries and other problems.
  2. Well Buck said he knew nothing lol Put yourself in his shoes. Chris wore it on his sleeve. It ate at him, not being able to return statistically what the contract dictated. Let’s face it, the Orioles paid him for what he did in the past and hopefully was going to do in the future. Mr. Angelos felt a real commitment to the city to try to bring Chris back. At the time, everybody was clamoring for it and loved the idea. It was kind of a behind-the-scenes thing. I didn’t know a whole lot about it until it really happened https://pressboxonline.com/2021/08/17/former-orioles-manager-buck-showalter-reflects-on-chris-davis-time-in-baltimore/
  3. The guy worked for Dan .. short of Dan or Peter saying it in public, not sure what evidence you want.
  4. Dan was not allowed to sign or participate in the Dominican and Latin American markets . Mike bringing Koby Perez was huge and this will pay dividends going forward
  5. The https://www.camdenchat.com/platform/amp/2019/4/9/18303386/orioles-chris-davis-contract-peter-angelosidea that there might have been a world where the Orioles did not go beyond either four years or $100 million to sign Davis is like a punch to the gut for me. Imagine how much less miserable all of this would seem now if this was the last year of Davis’s contract. He probably would have been cut loose long before he could get himself into his current 0-49 ditch.
  6. There are a few of us on the OH who liked the move then and still like it now. Not going to rehash why, because the only way to settle anything now is on the field. But if he makes a major contribution to Os winning this year, then this thread will be revisited.
  7. You mean people here don’t like the Frazier signing?
  8. Elias likely has a very free hand in terms of trading prospects
  9. I have my hopes up every single year since 1966 lol .. as do most all Os fans! And yes , this is why they play the games.
  10. Maybe Adam will use the animosity as a motivation
  11. I agree with all of that but honestly do believe that Adam will outperform his contract value and is an upgrade from Odor and can be flexed if Westburg or others are ready. We shall see. I suspect Mike would disagree with the characterization of his analysis. But that is why they play the games. If the frustration is because we all feel shortchanged by the cheap Angelos approach, then I certainly concur. But that is not necessarily about Adam Frazier.
  12. Hundreds of moves I have seen since first following the Os in 1966. The intensity of feeling about this one is out ofvthe notm imho and is quite disproportionate to its actual significance. This is called projective displacement by us psychology types. The move represents substantially more to some Os fans (ie Angelos, frustrations of losing years etc) than the merits of it warrant.
  13. I understand the issues. I was really just commenting on the intensity. Almost every thread comments about this one move. Maybe he represents some other frustrations with Orioles, Angelis, GMs etc .. but the issue is not my observation. The only other similar intensity I remember was the flip opposite.. Nolan Reimold was an obsession for several seasons on this board.. promotors and detractors. But it was far out of proportion to the facts of the situation.
  14. The intensity and venom of animosity about this one move is pretty much unparalleled in all the years I can recall on this board. It is very peculiar.
  15. One of my favorite Orioles .. thanks Darren and enjoy retirement!! ( and with career earnings of $ 50 million .. I suspect he will)
  16. 2,4,1,3 I am the President and only member of the Adam Frazier fan club. See the endless posts on other threads as to why. The pitching choices are close to each other Backup catcher is a sound deal
  17. I have a feel that Adley and Gunnar will be our Cal and Eddie or our Frank and Brooks…marauding anchors that carry teams.
  18. Absolutely!!!! That is how pennants are won!!
  19. Each category you cite the things that could not work out as well. Here are scenario possibilities too.. Pitching:Grayson could be Rookie pitcher of the year and be a legitimate ace by the time his innings limit. Means could be back with a vengeance by then. Kremer steps a step forward not back.. Gibson is fired up by 1 year prove me deal and Irvin eats innings Defense: Mateo wins GG and his bat improves enough. Gunnar explodes at 3rd. Urias and Frazier split 2b with excellent defense and Frazier spells corner outfielders when need a lefty matchup or Santander a DH . Rutschman wins GG . Mullins is GG capable offense:Mountcastle roars back to form , Henderson explodes, Hays has his best season, Adley becomes more and more powerful, Frazier ends up proving critics wrong Management:Elias wins GM of Year, Hyde wins Manager of year, Holt fixes our new acquisitions considerably, Angelos sell the team in offseason Glass half full!!!
  20. I agree .. it is what makes each season .. some regress but then others progress and in magic seasons unexpected performances seemingly come out of nowhere. Could Jorge Mateo hit better in 2023? Sure , odds say no, but who knows really. Could Ryan Mountcastle surprise us offensively? Sure .. could Anthony or Cedric regress and slump? Sure Putting a winning team is so complex because human performance is complex. Yes, a level of talent is needed but all ML players are talented just as all symphony orchestra musicians are talented. But the right mix, the right conductor, and performances exceed expectations Bring on the season!!!
  21. Small multiple improvements can collectively have a bigger impact than the board thinks. Every single move he has made has improved the team on paper from 2022.
  22. I agree .. now Irvin .. better than Wacha
