  1. A lefty league average starter who has more innings pitched both years than anyone in our rotation and is 28 with 4 years of control? And a prospect back. For a surplus 15-20th prospect? I like it.
  2. I voted 1 year and 10 or less but 11 would be ok i guess.
  3. Thus the three becoming one. An AllStar who gets flipped to a contending team needing a 2b would send back one good prospect at least imho.
  4. The Pirates got three when they traded him midseason 2021. If he performs at that level again and we still want to move him, he would return at least one. https://rumbunter.com/2021/07/27/pittsburgh-pirates-grading-adam-frazier-trade/amp/
  5. All this talk about him playing 158 or 156 or 162 makes me anxious about disturbing the karmic gods of baseball .. hope Adley is able to play a full year and be healthy..
  6. A GM traded a guy and said he was “an old 30” many years ago … who was that? Lol. Declining years? I can’t even remember 31 … I am in my declining years. Lol I hope he reads the board .. maybe it helps motivate to show us all what his decrepit, old self can do!!
  7. Odor had negative WARs in 3 of his last 4 complete years in the majors .. not the same Yes Frazier is 31 but that doesn’t mean that he cannot return to 2021 form. In 2021 he was an AllStar and had a .779 OPS. I hope his ability has not vanished and that he will return to his career norms.
  8. I have been a fan of the signing and against the vast tide of OHers who have ranged from it is bad, blocks prospects, washed up at 31 side to, at best, “well i hope he does well, but he won’t”. I am on the Elias side.. i think he puts up 2.5 to 3 WAR or more and is a key contributor to us making the playoffs. He has an individual reason to exceed expectations. If the prospects are ready, flip him. But relying on prospects who have no ML at bats is no way to win it this year .. adjustments are often rocky. Fine if you are aiming for 2024 to give the prospects all the time. Hedging your opinions by saying ..” he’s terrible but of course I hope I am wrong “will not be sufficient to prevent eating crow. EVERYONE, of course, hopes every O exceeds expectation. That is a given not an opinion.
  9. Dan’s defense and explanation was in Athletic … I think he did his job and did it appropriately. And that John Angelos is an insufferable privileged jerk. https://theathletic.com/4098676/2023/01/16/orioles-john-angelos-transparency/?source=user_shared_article
  10. I doubt Jerry Hoffberger ever needed a media spinner. Win a few championships and you have much less PR problems.
  11. So the only reason there was anything being announced at all was because of the Orioles donating fan generated revenue so Angelos acting like he was being accosted at mass was just his play at PR management .. which he failed.
  12. Angelos definitely had his planned response but looked petty and bullying. Since it was MLK day, Connolly may have asked about percentage of black Americans in leadership jobs with Orioles. But I have zero problem with Dan asking the question-if Angelos family didn’t always stonewall and manage their own press, it wouldn’t perhaps be necessary. Connolly was representing us, the customers who pay his organization and the taxoayers who do as well. And as others pointed out, he had no problem going on about the credit he should get for the turnaround …on MLK day. And the only reason the mayor and press were there is because of his ownership of the Os. Otherwise he is just another rich lawyer donating to help a cause.
  13. Bringing Koby Perez may be Mike’s biggest plus he has made happen for our organization.
  14. Reggie Jackson … oops he is HoFer Dave NcNally -tough tough tough Mike Cuellar-screwball lefty Don Buford — He and Cedric would be excellent pair in OF and at too of lineup.
  15. I voted for Jim Palmer .. I was fortunate to watch all of the great Oriole teams beginning in 1966. Jim Palmer was an outstanding pitcher but his greatest attribute was his encyclopedic knowledge of hitters and what vulnerabilities they had. He threw pitches in areas of the zone that just were difficult for most hitters to hit hard consistently. Palmer’s knowledge and ability to control his location were more Maddux and Mussina like than a Ryan or Carlton type. The question was posed as to how Palmer would do in today’s game. Ty Cobb was famously asked what he thought he would hit in today’s game. “About .270” he replied. The reporter said “that low?” And Cobb replied “well I am 72 “ Jim Palmer over the years of watching the parade of horrible pitchers getting paid more than he ever made in his career must have wondered about it himself.
  16. Elias “Sign with us and our fans will not puke “ Wacha:”OK”
  17. It can’t hurt to have options as starting pitchers go so I am fine with signing Wacha. I think Wells will be a bullpen guy but this year will prove it one way or another as starter
  18. If I had a nickel for every time a ZIPS or other fantasy projection service turned out wrong for both individuals and Orioles as a whole, I could retire lol But fortunately the game still has to actually be played by often unpredictable humans and we shall see.
  19. 2016 - .767, 2017- . 743, 2018- .798, 2019- .753 Then he played 50 games in 2020 so yes he wa at .661- not a valid predictor of anything imho which he proved by hitting .779 in 2021. I think all the below .700 predictions are not accurate and we will see.
  20. It is again amazing to me that his .612 OPS last year (after new league and new city) COMPLETELY negates a 7 year average OPS of .728. He had exactly 1 season below .700 and that was last year and at age 31 EVERYONE considers him a washed up nothing. I hope he duplicates his 2021 with Pittsburg for most of the season of .836 or his oversll OPS of .779 in 2021.
  21. “Reclamation projects Rock”. borrowed from another poster’s insult (but I really hope all the signees kick butt)
