  1. I put "established" in quotes because I really meant "older" and more experience running an organization with a much bigger budget, more demands to win from ownership, and really more experience dealing with a mega-rich owner. As you and many other posters note pretty much every day, Elias has not made the trades and free agent signings that most established GM's have made. I hope Elias stays and am not trying to rain on the optimism parade, but just pointing out that new owners do have a tendency to put "their" leadership in place. Hopefully Elias and the new owners click and they see the value in his approach.
  2. I'm not mad and not necessarily worried, but new owners do often bring in "their" person. Some of the new owners who want to make an immediate splash have brought in "established" GM's. I certainly hope that the new owners keep Elias, but I think that GM turnover happens with a year or two more than 50% of the time. That's just being realistic, not pessimistic.
  3. Everyone seems to assume that the new owners will happily keep Elias et al. They may want their "own" person after a year or so. That definitely happens frequently.
  4. I assume that city and state leaders are happy about the sale. They want fans at the stadium and a financially stable organization. And heck, some of them are even Orioles fans. They know what's what.
  5. How many premium prospects who have an impactful career are still at AAA at age 25? The clock is beginning to tick very loudly for some of these guys. Isn’t the average peak performance for position players like 27?
  6. 1. I was joking 2. He is employed to generate clicks, not to be accurate 3. Why do you care what he thinks? I am genuinely curious. I don’t understand the constant threads about his takes and the almost always seemingly irate responses. I honestly don’t get it.
  7. We do it on OH for free. Who’s dumber, the guy that gets paid to make up trades that will never happen or the people who do it for free?
  8. Very few players are going to agree to really large deferrals.
  9. You said “unless you’re Elon Musk”. I probably over interpreted the statement but you sounded like you thought he was different.
  10. Much of Elon Musk’s wealth is directly tied to federal and state governments. Space X alone has received more than 15 billion in federal funding since the early 2000s. Electric cars wouldn’t be a thing if it wasn’t for federal subsidies and incentives and investments from liberal states, primarily California. Musk has benefited greatly from government spending and regulations that created the “private” space industry and the market and infrastructure for electric cars.
  11. I actually don’t want a Cohen type owner and certainly don’t expect the Orioles to be purchased by someone willing to spend that kind of dumb money.
  12. I’m sorry that happened to you. Capitalism can be brutal. But there’s basically no way for this guy to squeeze significant cash out of the Orioles.
  13. You honestly think the Orioles generate the kind of money that a billionaire wants/needs? The operating profit of the Orioles is chump change for this guy. They can make money from selling the team after holding it for years but the guy is 74.
  14. Some sad stories shared in this thread. Cancer is horrible. My heart goes out to all of you.

Ahhh. I thought one was Jose's hitting and one was Jose's "pitching". I didn't even know that Jose had a twin.

Are you saying Jose Canseco is the same genetic material as Ruth? Huh?
  17. I am so sorry for Ryan and his family. Terrible news.
  18. People care a lot Tony. I don’t know about others, but I vary a lot in how often I click thumps up or the like button. I think your analyses are super appreciated and strongly influence OH members. Posters refer to them all the time including in this thread.
  19. Ps. I guess losing old players to injury could actually decrease your average age if they are replaced with really young players.
  20. I thought the same thing about age, but at least by average age of roster the Orioles and Rays were 28.2 and the Red Sox and Yankees were 28.6 and 28.3, respectively. That’s a head scratcher. Blue Jays average age was 29.6 and Texas Rangers were 29.7. Maybe there’s more to this once you drill down into the specifics, but at least based on average age of roster it doesn’t look like that explains the days lost to injury.
  21. Kind of a blah Arizona Fall League.
  22. This. I hope the Orioles are paying Elias, Sig, and Hyde pretty well.
  23. Was your contractor forced to work for you for like six years for below market rates before you signed that pool contract? That’s what happens in baseball. The situations are totally different. Only a fraction of players make it to the point where they are competitive for a nice, multi-year deal.
  24. Oh man. I am so sorry. I hope you are doing much, much, much better now. And I'm glad your faith helped you. I'm not very religious, but I understand the value of faith.
