  1. And it’s not like by replacing Odor with Gunnar you replace a beloved guy with a jerk. By all accounts Gunnar is a clubhouse guy too.
  2. Dang you Frobby!! Stop replying to my insightful conjecture with your factual information………unless it SUPPORTS my claim!!!!
  3. I believe I saw someone on here comp him to Ben Zobrist, who played all over the diamond but, to my recollection wasn’t a plus defender anywhere. It seems so far this is our ceiling comp for Vavra. Make him your super utility, move him around 2B, CF, DH, and keep the bat in the lineup 5-6 days a week. A lot of value in that, and it really plays well once the youngins get up here.
  4. Will that mean they job his service time next year? Or do you think he starts the season in the bigs?
  5. Maybe he realized he’s not going to Baltimore this year.
  6. I think it’s been documented that Law has big heart eyes for Ortiz.
  7. What is the downside of bringing up Gunnar? Is it simply the year of control? I have never had a problem with the Os playing the service time game, but if we are establishing an “elite pipeline of talent”, then doesn’t this service time issue diminish? To me your deadline deals involve minor league promotions and ridding the roster of the AAAA players.
  8. I think with this team, with our players/needs, it is fairly easy in theory to buy and sell at the same time. The hard part is finding the appropriate partners for that. But I do think your above scenario accomplishes that. My biggest hope is what you said last; whatever we do, I hope it clears the way for some of the younger guys to come up and get a couple month warmup for 2023.
  9. I also wonder if he gets to the point where he feels there is a “full stock” of talent in the system if they would then alter their plan and maybe take a few more of the riskier picks.
  10. But that’s the rub for this decision, it’s as much about next year and beyond as it is this year. Getting them up, especially Vavra who is 25, informs you about their ability to help in ‘23. In my opinion, whatever he gives you for this year is a bonus.
  11. Very interesting Voth’s quotes on the video analysis and data available in Baltimore that he wasn’t accustomed to. I have no idea if that is truly making a difference with these guys but you can certainly make an argument it is.
  12. My golfing buddies get on me the same way for never seeing Caddyshack.
  13. And I think as we continue to acquire/develop more and more of these types this line of thinking becomes easier. The value of one prospect to the organization becomes less and less when this happens.
  14. Yeah I understand that any trade can go different ways. My vote for this trade is more about Hall than anything else. I understand the line of thinking in trading him I guess, but when he becomes a star, which I think is quite realistic, that would hurt. Even if he doesn’t make it as a starter, he has Josh Hader written all over him.
  15. It is a ‘potentially’ great return for Santander. The other side of the coin is that you trade him for essentially what Zimmermann can give you.
  16. My vote is Santander/Snell if these are the two choices. Gets Stowers up, potentially fills a rotation spot for next couple years. I would do everything in my power if I were Elias to do better than this trade for Santander, but I’m not sure what is realistic on that front.
  17. Yeah, I’ve seen him all over fans on social media defending his teammates so I would say you will get more out of him.
  18. I feel like this overall line of thinking about draft for need is a little bit of Oriole fan trauma. Like we have to draft need because the cupboard is always bare. My thought is that you keep drafting good players and signing International good players, this line of thinking goes away. This is what I would believe Elias is doing, flooding the system with talent so you rarely would ever draft “for need”.
  19. Agreed. To me, there is a big difference between “promoting” based on performance vs “resetting” to your proper level. This seems like the latter. Hell, that reset probably should be Bowie but I certainly understand a level at a time.
  20. Stewart seems like the kind of player that ends up on the A’s or Rays and hits 30 HR with a 350 OBP
  21. To me these are very different pitchers. Kremer’s stuff has always been superior to Zimmermann’s. There was always that feeling that he (Zimm) was a little over his head. Now not saying Kremer won’t regress, but I don’t think the results he is getting right now are that shocking given his profile.
  22. Here’s a fun one to consider…who debuts first, Gunnar or Grayson?!? Would have been a ridiculous question a week ago(and probably still is), but Gunnar could make this interesting.
  23. He hasn’t given them a whole lot of choice, especially with this promotion.
