.

About every 10 years, Auburn has fielded teams that have had somewhat of an argument for a National Championship (not including the 2010 team that won it all.)

1972: 10-1, Won the Gator Bowl, beat previously-undefeated #2 Alabama (10-0.)

1983: ALSO: Beat 4th-ranked Tennessee, led by Condredge Holloway.

1983: 11-1, Won the Sugar Bowl, Top 2 teams ahead of them lost bowl games.

1983: ALSO: Beat previously unbeaten Georgia (8-0-1) late in the season.

1993: The only undefeated team in the nation.

1983: ALSO: Beat previously unbeaten Florida (5-0) mid-season.

2004: 13-0, Won the Sugar Bowl. Snubbed for the national title game.

1983: ALSO: Beat 5th-ranked Georgia (8-1) late in the season.

2013: ???

If you are from the other team in this state, all those count as national championships.

I'm from Brewster, and I'm a Nebraska fan, so I'm a little more objective. ;)

I understand what you are saying, though. For a lot of years from the late 80's onward, Florida, Florida State, and Miami, Fla. were all playing each other, not only for an inside track to the national championship ........ but for the STATE championship !!!

Similarly, when Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier for the world title in 1971 and again in 1975, there rivalry was so intense that they weren't really fighting for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world ........ they were fighting for the heavyweight championship OF EACH OTHER !!! :eektf:

Had to leave the tent where they were feeding us because it was too dang cold. A biting 61 degrees. Now I'll just have to fight through wildfires, mudslides, and earthquakes to get home.

Tough it out. You can do it. It's 17 degrees in Auburn, AL now.

Yeah, what do they have now? 48?

Is 2013 going to count too?

According to the commentators before the Sugar Bowl, 'Bama was still the best team in the country, AU was just lucky. So, yeah, some Tide supporters have chalked up 2013 as another championship.

That guy (Roberto Aguayo) is only a red-shirt freshman, and he is 21-for-22 in field goals for the year, including 7-for-8 from 40-49 yards, and 1-for-1 from 50-plus yards.

And that 41-yard field goal just now was very tough, because of the angle (right-footed kicker from the right hash-marks.)

Undoubtedly a future N.F.L candidate.

In a weird way, Florida State may have done themselves a favor by getting that penalty, and having to kick the extra point.

I don't like chasing down those points unless it's the last 5-7 minutes of the game.
