Someone that wants to be here to start with. I think Brady would do good in the roll. Only thing with Brady does he have experience on doing a MLB Deal.
So you would replace a GM with years of experience and success in his role with Brady doing on-the-job training? Gotcha.

I haven't read this entire thread but I don't have a problem with Dan wanting the Toronto job IF he's under consideration, and IF he's interested. I don't care either that he does have a contract for the next three years with the Orioles. If he's important to the organization the Angelos family needs to let him know exactly that. Some may say well they already did by re-signing him to an extension, that's small potatoes. Step up to the plate, give him a huge raise, name him President, Baseball Operations, let him hire a GM.

Let the man know he's wanted and needed. But more than anything don't be petty by saying he's under contract and can't talk to anyone else! That sounds like the Angelos of old, or the Law Offices of Peter Angelos talking. The key point in all this is that this wouldn't be a lateral move for Dan. I'm sure it would be a significant increase in money, responsibility and stature. Who wouldn't want that? I mean really.

If this gets dirty and ownership screws this up I'll be ticked for sure. It'll be a monumental fustercluck. Duquette loves this team, he's given the Orioles his heart. It's time to let him know how important he is to this franchise.

I don't understand why names of replacements are being thrown around. Toronto hasn't talked to him about the job and he's still under contract. Not to mention that he was out of Baseball for ten years and jumping ship on the team that brought you back is very poor form. And finally, name one baseball team owned by a Corporation that had long term success?

he has definitely not said that he has no interest in the job. all he's said is my focus is with the orioles. might as well thrown in "for now."

Maybe this is the time for Cal as President.

It would be so easy for him to put the rumors to rest. Maybe the reason he won't come out and flat out say he isn't going anywhere is because there is a deal being worked out in the background?

I posted this in the winter meetings thread, but it also belongs here. When Dan Duquette left the Expos for the Red Sox, the Expos could have demanded compensation, but didn't instead extracting a promise that the Red Sox wouldn't poach other front office personnel or draft an Expo in the Rule 5 draft.

If the Expos aren't getting compensation for Duquette - there were rumors that the Red Sox would give Montreal $500,000 - there are plenty in baseball wondering why. Brochu said he didn't want to keep Duquette from attaining his dream job.

Or maybe he is just flattered to be considered for the job he always aspired to. There is something to be said about the Angelos family holding those titles in the Orioles Organization that makes it mostly impossible to duplicate that gig in Baltimore. Dan has an infant. He will not be retiring in 2019.

I don't think Peter Angelos will look at it the same way. And they are in the same division.

-- In other baby news, Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette and his wife, Amy, are the parents of a new baby boy named Colt, who was born early Thursday morning. The couple has seven children between them.

    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
    • I'll be working at Gate F.  If you're getting drunk at Pickles before the game and then walk through the closest gate, you'll walk right past me.
    • What happens if it rains all day?
    • For me, bullpen strategy in a short series is developing a core principle or two and working backwards from that. That’s usually going to involve how we want to pitch to their best guys. In this case, there’s really no way to game Witt. He doesn’t have any discernible platoon splits, and in fact he destroyed RHPs this year. He doesn’t even have any particular pitches he struggles against. If you have to pitch to him, power stuff seems to be the way to go — if he has any weakness, it seems like maybe it’s LHPs who can attack him with high velocity and some sort of off speed weapon (Skubal, Framber, Kikuchi, EdRod, Rodon, Sale, Gore). So maybe you’re looking at Soto and Perez there, although you really just shouldn’t be pitching to him at all if you can avoid it. Beyond him, the other “hero” is Salvador Perez. And that’s from where I’d be building out my strategy. He probably should not see a LHP all series. There’s a fairly meaningful career platoon split there (109 wRC+ to 101), and it’s been more pronounced this year (130 to 110). I would be looking to force feed him ABs against Cano (1/4 with a single), Webb (0/2 with two Ks), and Dominguez. He’s always had trouble with offspeed stuff, which means Webb might be the preferred option. They’ve faced a ton of LH starters in the last week or so, but it seems like their preferred lineup against RHPs stacks LH hitters like Melendez and Gurriel behind Perez. Melendez is awful against LHPs, so ideally Perez might be the last hitter that the starters see. They pinch hit very liberally in platoon fashion in the bottom half of the lineup, so if you brought in someone like Akin behind the starter, they might very well hit for him. Forcing them to do that erases a lot of the platoon stacking in the late innings, so you could subsequently bring in a RHP to pitch to Perez without the same concern that they’d be exposed after him.    In sum, I think the ideal attack plan is for Burnes/Eflin/Kremer to see Perez three times, then bring in Akin or Cionel to pitch to the bottom of what will likely be a lefty-heavy lineup. They’ll potentially PH there, but that’s okay because none of those guys are that good. You then go to one of the RHPs for the top of the lineup, which it seems will consist of Pham, Witt (pitch around), and Perez. Then back to Coulombe or Soto for the bottom of the lineup again.
    • I have two tickets to Game 1 of the WC which I cannot use due to work travel.  Section 352, row 4, seats 9 & 10.  Asking $70 total for the two.  Paid $205 to the Orioles as a season plan member.   PM me if interested.  Paypal preferred.
