Andrus might wind up being the best part of the Tex deal when all is said and done. Salty was beaten out by Laird and rather than have him be the backup, they are going to keep him in AAA. I think Schuerholz pulled one last genius trade like he was known for. He knew Salty was overrated and captialized just like he's done on most of his trades.

He's 22 years old! He didn't actually do that bad! It's spring training! You can't be serious!

Jarrod Saltalamacchia is just about one year older than Matt Wieters. He already has 308 major league at bats and a .730 OPS. He also put up a .900+ OPS in the Carolina League at 20. Wieters will be lucky to have 100 MLB at bats of a .730 by the time he's Salty's age, and he just might spend most of this year (age 22) in the Carolina League.

Do you think Matt Wieters will have Salty's current major league or minor league resume by the time the 2008 season is over? I think he'd be doing very well if he has either. If Saltalamacchia is an overrated piece to be flipped to a hoodwinked GM, I hope MacPhail is as crazy as Texas' management.

Laird and Melhuse MLB

Salty AAA, needs to work ongame calling and overall defensive skills

Teagarden and MaxRamierez to AA both get to be a C/DH

Laird is going to stay in Texas as long as Salty needs more seasoning. I have a hard time to fault Texas at this point on this move. I truthfully think this is a move to keep Salty back for a few months that would be enough to prevent him from becoming a "super 2" at the end of '09.
