You could trade Britton couldn't you? The point is I wouldn't have made the deal. But since you're trying to be a ***** and turn this into a personal thing I'm gonna let you have your glory and mouth off like a keyboard know it all.

Ain't nothing personal about it.

I was just being honest.

I didn't think anyone would be short-sighted enough to sign Miller then let the super 2 continue racking up saves.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Whatever dude. I don't like the trade to begin with. You don't have to agree and I don't have to agree.

I'm worried this team is gonna fall back to the bottom for a few years because of how Duquette has handled the system. Hopefully they don't but I don't trust Dan to much.

You wanna have all the faith in him go for it. More power to you.

Who said I had "faith" in him?

I don't deal much in faith.

Talk about putting words into someone's mouth.

Shouldn't you learn more about the system before you bash Duquette for destroying it? We may not have a lot of "sure things" in the system, but Caleb Joseph was never a sure thing. The two top teams in our system, Norfolk and Bowie, are in first place. People will say that doesn't mean much, but I'd rather our players be learning to win than lose. Did they make to first place without any talent? And if Harvey and Bundy ever get healthy and deliver, everyone will love what Duquette did with the system.

That's false and I didn't say anything like that. Don't put words in my mouth. Let's act like adults and stick to the conversation.

Everyone that wanted to sign Miller had to deal with the Britton fallout. He was fine in his post.

DD took over an organization with a weak farm system and an owner who refuses to sign free agents unless they come at a bargain price. He managed to get to the playoffs twice by finding hidden, cheap talent and by sacrificing draft picks. This year his bargain basement specials didn't work out, and the farm system looks barren. I admire him for his success, but his model is not likely to succeed in the long term.

Whether you fire DD or not, the O's aren't going to succeed in the long run unless the owner is willing to significantly bump up payroll, or unless the organization gets a lot better at drafting and developing talent--which again is partly contingent on the owner being willing to invest more in signing international players.

No not at all. This team even with its shortcommigs has some talent on it. What happended this year I am not sure anyone can figure out. I know the starting pitching has been very poor which was supposed to be one of the strong points this season. In 2012 when we made the playoffs everyone kept saying how lucky we were and with the expected record difference compared to actual record. I kept hearing it was Buck and Luck. Well this season is the exact opposite we are one of only 5 teams in the AL with a positive run differential. We also have an expected record or 71-66. We should atleast be in the hunt for a playoff spot or even the division. This year we just seem to do things to loose when in previous years we found ways to win.

I think if Buck puts an ultimatum of "Him or Me", Buck wins.

Wasn't Buck asked to also be GM and refused before they hired Duqette?

The number of players DFAed this year shows that Dan's dumpter diving turned up all stinkers this year.

I think I could see a scenario where Buck has the final GM type say, but Brady is doing the GM leg work for him. I think the same thing was in place with Flanagan.

He would never be so stupid.

No HE was not offered that position.

He had a poor year.

It is nothing like when Flanny and his puppeteers were with us.

I don't think Bundy was drafted by Duquette.

I know that anywhere that talks baseball and farm systems the Orioles are consistently out of the top 25. MLB network was bashing them back a few months ago about how they drafted this year.

For a team that can't spend a good farm system and player development is extremely important.

We can just agree to disagree at this point. I don't have the time to study the farm and every player down there. I read enough as it is.

I wish the Orioles all the luck. Hopefully Duquette makes me look like an idiot. I am just not confident in how he runs the team. This offseason should be interesting. Time will tell but God do I fear more bad baseball in the coming years.

And even with his "dumpster diving," the offense scored as much as last season. How did his "dumpster diving" destroy the starting pitching that is the real problem? How is that his fault?

    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
    • And or give up picks for QO pitchers
    • They've averaged 92 wins a year the last 3 years in the most difficult environment in the sport with basically the greatest disadvantages in the sport. Something tells me they know a hell of a lot more about this than you do.
    • Not when they aren't worthy. At minimum the hitting coaches should be el gonezo
    • That is the sign of a stable and successful organization.  Firing people.  Who could argue that?
