I like Garcia if he is available. Kim Kwang-Hyun --LHP, 26 years old, 6'2'', 194 lbs. Robbie Ray. Mark Trumbo. Sean Nolin. Josh Reddick.
How much are you paying them? or what are you trading for them? Not impressed with Kim. His numbers are mediocre for the Korean League.

C: Joseph

1B: Napoli

2b: Schoop

SS: Hardy

3B: Machado

LF: Jackson

CF: Jones

RF: Venable

SP1: Tillman

SP3: Jimenez

SP 4: Happ

SP5: Gonzo

Most Pitchers are right handed. Most Left handed batters hit right handers better than right handed batters. You have one left handed batter. And he is not too good.

This is a great exercise. I've learned a lot from what others have posted. Here's my team, followed by how much I'm guessing they will make (using MLBRTR's arb estimates where appropriate) and keeping the budget below $120MM. New acquisitions are in bold.

Starters

C Joseph .55

1B Morneau 5

2B Schoop .55

3B Manny 5.9

SS Hardy 12.5

LF Pearce 3.5

CF Jones 16

RF Ethier 15 (acquired from LA: Britton for Ethier plus $5MM)

DH Jaso 5

Bench

Clevenger .55

Reimold 1.1

Janish .7

Pre-arb player with options .55

Rotation

Kazmir 12

Gausman .55

Tillman 6.2

Jimenez 13

Wilson 5.5

Bullpen

O'Day 8

Brach 1.1

Givens .55

Wright or Drake .55

Bundy 1.25

McFarland .55

Matusz or new LOOGY 3.5

Traded

Britton for Ethier and cash.

Miguel Gonzalez - Will be a bargain at 4.9mm, but will be 32. Plus, the O's need to move Wilson into the rotation and have a starter (besides Gausman) with options.

Ryan Flaherty - Does not have as good an arm from SS or 3B as Janish and will cost more.

Obviously, this won't replace Davis's power, but Ethier, Morneau, and Jaso will add three left-handed batters with strong OBP skills.

Not better than good. Not at all. Bud Norris good.

LOL, I don't even want to get Fister, but you're making me defend his 2014 season. I don't give a flying bleep what some of his metrics were. 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP is an outstanding year. I don't care that he had less than 100 strikeouts when his SO/W ratio was 4/1. Anything you can say to try to convince me or anyone else that it's not good... you got it.... I don't give a flyin bleep. Maybe it was an indicator that he was in for a down year, but it doesn't mean he didn't have a good year.

Ok. Got it. Don't want him, he's done for 2016.

This is just what I thought might happen. Instead of people using what brain one would hope they have, and proposing their own ideas, they choose to nit pick my sample offering, because they are unable to understand the difference between and example and a proposal. I am more interested in hearing what other people think the best roster might be, not whether they like the idea of Fister or Span. I don't even know if I like them. Again it was an example of what I thought the exercise might look like, what form it might take.

It was a good thread idea, and now that I'm not sidetracked, I'll give it a shot - with a little help from my friends Cut and Paste. I'll start a little differently. I'm trading Adam Jones (putting on a helmet to deflect the rocks) to Texas for Lew Brinson and Ryan Cordell. I'm fixated on trading with Texas because they have so many OF prospects, and they seem like a good team for Jones. And I really like both Brinson and Cordell. And that trade gives me a bunch more money to play with.

Fowler LF 12M

Span CF 9M

Manny 3B

Pearce 1B 4 M/Mancini

Schoop 2B

DH Morneau 5M

Caleb C/Pierzynzki 3M

Hardy SS

Ryan Cordell RF 1M

SP

Leake 12M

Tillman

Gausman

Gonzo

Ubaldo

Fowler probably costs a pick and I would be very wary of Mike Leake who will command a multi year pact, most likely. Could get lit up in the AL. Numbers regressed badly this year.

Fowler will cost a pick. He's not bad. I just don't want a 2 WAR guy that will cost that much.

    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
    • Which core players beside Adley Rutschman struggled?
    • The entire commentary on Hyde and the team seems odd but have to admit there does seem to be something off.   Team seemed adrift for most of the 2nd half.  A very talented team went off the rails midway through the season mostly due to core players struggling and rookies not performing or filling in adequately for a few injured starters.    None of the position player trade line acquisitions performed that well.     Hyde seemed in over his head or at a loss on how to correct things, but he must have convinced Elias that he has a plan to fix things.  Curious to see what happens with the coaching staff.
