O's sign Ashur Tolliver to a minor league contract

The O's are in great need of lefthanded pitchers which had me thinking he might have been added to the major league roster this off season to protect him for the Rule 5 draft. That worry is gone with this signing.

I would think that Toliver gets a promotion to AAA and maybe a invitation to ST. He could be on the Norfolk shuttle to the O's if he has a good season.

With Branden Kline having surgery that leaves Chris Lee, Andrew Triggs and Parker Bridwell as the best candidates to be added to the Major League roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft.

Tolliver is still eligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft if not added to the 40 man. I didn't realize he was a 6 year MIL FA already. This seems to indicate that he won't be added.

So you are saying I should still be worried that he will be taken in the Rule 5 draft. Darn.

Yeah just because he resigned on a minor league deal doesnt mean he is protected. He could still get picked if he isnt added to the 40 man.
