Wow. I had no idea you could get that many playing baseball. Maybe he should wear a football helmet

Ryan Freel suffered from CTE and killed himself.

I know I posted this recently.

Historians might point to former catcher Mike Matheny, who retired in 2007 after as many as 25 concussions

What a disaster.

How the hell does Duquette not understand that starting pitching is fragile? How did he not go out and get a Fister or a Lewis? Or Hammel earlier in the season? Or do anything?

We have Bundy who's been lit up like a Christmas tree and is a huge question mark.

Tillman who's on the DL.

Jimenez who is a box of chocolates. Usually with gross in the middle of them.

Gausman who's solid.

And Miley who stinks...and is on the DL.

There is zero meaningful starting pitching depth in the minors.

This team is in deep trouble.

Fister would be absolutely awful here. Hammel breaks down after 1/2 a season. Bundy just needs to throw strikes and not meatballs. Tillman will probably be back around May. You're right about Gausman. Miley is average, but him being on the DL opens up an opportunity for guys like Ynona and Aqunio to get their feet wet. That's good depth if you think about it.

This is what you need to do, buddy.

Hard to argue with this, been saying this for 2 years. DD cannot assemble an above-average staff.

However...we have an opportunity here.

Worley isn't great but helps.

Gee or Pelfrey helps the most.

Another TBD waiver wire helps.

Sign any or everyone that could be a SP candidate. So he's doing something now, problem is no quality, just quantity.

Pelfrey? He wouldn't be an improvement over what we have. Most people would be complaining about DD's laziness if that was his move.

Ha-I had you blocked. Forgot all about you....might have to stop posting:)

Yeah-what a CRAZY idea-so crazy that Gary Thorne asked DD himself today about Palfrey on the telecast.

It's amazing how you can take anything personally.

So, you think it is a good idea, because Gary Thorne suggested it? As opposed to the fact that he was terrible all last year and released by the Tigers this year with $8M left on his contract?

The Orioles placed Wade Miley on the DL today, but he will be eligible to pitch on his 1st start of the year on April 9th. This should allow the Orioles to carry an extra player until then at the very least. Looking over the roster I think there's a pretty good chance that both Trey Mancini and Craig Gentry make the opening day roster. Gentry could come in for defense late in games for Seth Smith or Mancini, assuming Mancini will now play RF against lefties. With Tillman going on the DL and the Orioles not needing a 5th starter until April 15th, here's how i see the roster shaping up over April.

Opening Day

Starters: (3)
Kevin Gausman
Dylan Bundy
Ubaldo Jimenez

Relievers: (8)
Zach Britton
Darren O'day
Brad Brach
Mychal Givens
Donnie Hart
Vidal Nuno
Tyler Wilson
Logan Verrett (Asher could still be in mix)

Catchers: (2)
Welington Castillo
Caleb Joseph

Infielders: (5)
Chris Davis - 1B
Jonathan Schoop - 2B
JJ Hardy - SS
Manny Machado - 3B
Ryan Flaherty - UTL

Outfielders: (6)
Hyun Soo Kim - LF
Joey Rickard - LF
Adam Jones - CF
Seth Smith - RF
Trey Mancini - RF
Craig Gentry - OF defense/PR

DH: (1)
Mark Trumbo

Verrett or Wilson will go down when Miley returns depending on who is still available innings wise as of April 9th.

So I saw in another thread that Verrett had been sent down?

So who takes that last spot?  Asher?  Ynoa?  Aquino?  Waiver wire pickup?

No because your an obnoxious prick.

He was released and cleared waivers numbnuts, he can be signed for the league minimum.

You don't add anything that I didn't already state in my previous post. You still haven't presented a reason as to why Pelfrey is the best option. All you have is that Gary Thorne suggested it and he is cheap. Neither one offers evidence that he is good.

At this point, Asher is getting that first fifth starter chance. In my opinion. Dan is going to acquire someone for the 25.

I never understand why the beat writers get some basic stuff wrong so often. I read Encina saying they will add Gentry but need to make space on the 40 man. As if he forgot that Drake just came off.

The 40 man roster is full, and someone will need to come off for Gentry. Also, Drake is on the 40 man. You're the one that's wrong, not Encina.

    • Not that I am in any way full agreement, but this is a classic post.  Doesn't Machado play chess?  Maybe we could get some chess boards in the clubhouse and junk all the legos.  Not all great baseball men are John McGraw bad asses.  Some can be Christy Mathewsons as well, I suppose.  Not that I imagine today's young players much resembling McGraw or Mathewson, but they are the first two contrasting old school types that come to mind.  I will say just based on his postseason alone I'd much rather have Tatis over Machado.
    • Well I refuse to believe that only the O's have no players that want extensions.
    • Customer advocate groups have tried for decades to force the cable companies to allow channel by channel (a la carte) subscriptions, but the cable companies fought this because it would result in far less revenue (than forcing us to pay for a hundred channels we don't watch).  The government refused to intervene, so we've been stuck with the existing business model for all this time.  Streaming is forcing the change because streaming -- for now -- is an a la carte model.   MLB's fear must be this: if the regional sports network cable channel model goes away, will most users pay anywhere close to what these channels made as part of a cable bundle for just one streaming channel where all you watch are Orioles games (or maybe Orioles and Nats games -- whatever the case may be)?  So if you pay $100/month for cable with MASN, you are probably watching at least a few other channels too.  But will you pay $15/month (or whatever the price may be) just to watch the Orioles -- even during the months when there is no baseball?  The existing basic cable model has been quite stable because people tend to watch at least 5 or 6 channels.  They're reluctant to cancel their whole cable package just because baseball season is over -- or they've been too busy to watch many games this season.  But with a single streaming channel of just baseball there is bound to be a far more unstable revenue base.  All the streaming channels are already dealing with this problem.  I think MLB is maybe reluctant to go all in on streaming for this reason.  Perhaps they're looking for new different model that could allow them to bundle individual team channels with Netflix, or Prime, or maybe with your cell phone plan or something else.  This could give them some stability, but it could also be a turn off for the more hardcore fans who just want the Orioles and little else.  It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out and if MLB, and the Orioles, will prosper or suffer as a result.
    • What if they don’t want to be extended?
    • I don't want the O's to lose much, but I do want there to be a massive streaming deal with Amazon or some other company the O's are left out of.  This blackout nonsense is bullsh!t. 🤬
