It might just be that the pitchers are not very good.

Just a theory, going to need some more data before I come to a conclusion.

There is a reason we got these guys for just cash. We need a healthy Tillman or we have to make a trade. It's that simple.

Frank Thomas was suggesting the Orioles trade for Jose Quintana in the FS1 pregame show on Saturday.  I would love to have him, but it would probably cost us at least Mancini, Sedlock, AND Sisco to get Quintana.

More than that is my guess bc I would do that deal. He's signed through 2018 I believe and our staff is only going to get worse as people realize this mystery faith in Ubaldo every ST is moronic.

All depends if the goal is to win something or just be competitive. I think for business reasons it's the latter so don't think something like that would happen.

I would trade Mancini and probably Sisco too in a package for Quintana, but I would not want to part with Sedlock.

See three Norfolk pitcher that have a chance to help.

Asher, pitches today.  Let's see what he has got.   On the roster

Bleier, Pitching well.  Was a starter in 2015.  Has some major league experience.   He is a lefty which is not ideal but if he is pitching well and no one else steps up he may be able to help. On the roster

Richard Rodriguez,  Pitching well.  Not normally a starter but if he can go 4 and hold down the competition I would give him a chance. He is a righty. Pitched well at AAA last year.  No on the roster.  Santander would have to be put on the 60 day DL to make room.

Greetings from Fiji!

No pitcher has been pitching good for Norfolk it seems, starters or relievers. Gotta think Cisco has something to do with it? At the very least, worth asking the question. If not Cisco, something other than the pitchers.

How are you!   It's Sisco. Not that the issue is he. The name.

Pena caught yesterday.  Same result. Aquino - 3 innings, 4 earned runs

Or...or...or maybe we don't make judgements about players after one start or appearance? Other than Sedlock, none of our top pitching prospects that have pitched have pitched particularly well in their first start. You know what that means? Nothing.

Come talk to me at the end of April after they've made 5-6 starts and then we will have a better idea of how things are going. Hell Akins was bombed in his first start but it was 40 some degrees and a day after his initial start was supposed to be. It was clearly an awful start to the year, but he could very well come back and be lights in his next start. Give these guys a chance. Its fine to follow and talk about how they are doing, but I caution making conclusions at this point.

I don't think we are talking about making conclusions on whether a pitcher's career will be good or bad.   Instead we are talking about who is pitching well enough to pitch in the majors on April 15th and April 22nd.  The O's have to come to a conclusion on that.

Sure, but they aren't going to make that decision based off of one start or appearance necessarily. It's going to come down to who's available around that date and throwing the best. If Asher throws well tonight, along with the fact that his next start lines up with the 15th, he very well could be that guy. I agree that Aquino did not help himself out last night, but the Orioles brass liked what they saw of him this spring. Saying that, considering Toronto is a right-handed heavy team, I'd rather see a right-hander than a left-hander make the start which again leads me back to Asher. If Asher struggles badly tonight after struggling this spring with Philadelphia, the other option would be to give Wilson the start than send him back to AAA afterwards and bring up someone like Ynoa to pitch in his long relief role.

    • Just did a bit of a walk. Some decently large braches down, one segment of privacy fence missing and standing water on the property in a low spot.
    • Just woke up and I don't hear any wind or rain.
    • Not that I am in any way full agreement, but this is a classic post.  Doesn't Machado play chess?  Maybe we could get some chess boards in the clubhouse and junk all the legos.  Not all great baseball men are John McGraw bad asses.  Some can be Christy Mathewsons as well, I suppose.  Not that I imagine today's young players much resembling McGraw or Mathewson, but they are the first two contrasting old school types that come to mind.  I will say just based on his postseason alone I'd much rather have Tatis over Machado.
    • Well I refuse to believe that only the O's have no players that want extensions.
    • Customer advocate groups have tried for decades to force the cable companies to allow channel by channel (a la carte) subscriptions, but the cable companies fought this because it would result in far less revenue (than forcing us to pay for a hundred channels we don't watch).  The government refused to intervene, so we've been stuck with the existing business model for all this time.  Streaming is forcing the change because streaming -- for now -- is an a la carte model.   MLB's fear must be this: if the regional sports network cable channel model goes away, will most users pay anywhere close to what these channels made as part of a cable bundle for just one streaming channel where all you watch are Orioles games (or maybe Orioles and Nats games -- whatever the case may be)?  So if you pay $100/month for cable with MASN, you are probably watching at least a few other channels too.  But will you pay $15/month (or whatever the price may be) just to watch the Orioles -- even during the months when there is no baseball?  The existing basic cable model has been quite stable because people tend to watch at least 5 or 6 channels.  They're reluctant to cancel their whole cable package just because baseball season is over -- or they've been too busy to watch many games this season.  But with a single streaming channel of just baseball there is bound to be a far more unstable revenue base.  All the streaming channels are already dealing with this problem.  I think MLB is maybe reluctant to go all in on streaming for this reason.  Perhaps they're looking for new different model that could allow them to bundle individual team channels with Netflix, or Prime, or maybe with your cell phone plan or something else.  This could give them some stability, but it could also be a turn off for the more hardcore fans who just want the Orioles and little else.  It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out and if MLB, and the Orioles, will prosper or suffer as a result.
