If both were available at #4, I would take Smoak.

You can't split Posey & Wieters between catcher & DH without having to carry a third catcher or risk losing the DH every game if one gets hurt or tired.

If we take Posey then he'll need to be able to play something other than Catcher on a regular basis or we'll still be spending a 25-man roster spot on the likes of Paul Bako every season.

No it wouldn't. Do you really want to waste the 4th overall pick in the draft on a "super utility" guy?

First, it would not be a waste to have that type of player on the cllub. Having no dropoff for the 50 or so games he would catch for weiters is also of great value. The guy , in my scenario would get his 500 at bats, so how is that wasting the 4th pick. Not to mention all the injuries that catcher are prone to, and having that insurance if also of value. Let's not forget that I was also only answering the specific question that was asked.
