Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't his velocity been down as well?

He was 90-91 with his fastball tonight. Really looked like a pitcher. Threw a 1-0 curveball to start the game in the 1st inning. Guy knows how to keep them off balance.

I recall him being a 91-94 guy in Tampa.  He was sitting more 89-91 tonight.  He does know how to pitch and has a good change up.

He never threw particularly hard, but he's had a similar velocity the past 3 or 4 seasons, averaging about 90mph on the fastball.  Earlier in his career he averaged 91.5mph.  The issue this year is that he has become an extreme flyball pitcher and he doesn't strike anyone out.  Those things don't play well unless you pitch in a huge ballpark.  So while the results today were good, only 3Ks and 27% GBs generally follows the trend of this season.

Good thing is most of his fly outs were lazy fly outs. Nothing was hit very hard tonight in terms of fly balls.

I like the way Hellickson pitches as well.  He would be a nice complement in style to Gausman and Bundy. Let's hope he's not getting silly money like we see all the time and the Orioles might have a chance if he enjoys his time here.  Whatever we do, please do not pick up Miley's option or that's one night in five I will not be watching!
