Why?  Those moves would be purely looking towards 2018. We seem to have some pretty realistic pieces for the outfield already. Know what we don't have?  Is a SS.   You may not like Beckham and that is fine, though I disagree. But it will NOT be Hardy.

One of the issues Beckham had with Tampa was them moving him off short to second base.  I'm sure he would just love getting moved to left field.

Well it would test the theory that he can be moody and disruptive...so there is that too. :)

Yea, if he's gonna throw a tantrum when his manager moves him from his preferred position to help the team, he is not the kind of guy we want here.  One of the biggest reasons we are even sniffing a WC spot right now is the team chemistry IMO.  And I'd like to think that the influence of leaders like Adam Jones and Buck would stop him from throwing a bi**h fit.

How did we suddenly get to him throwing a tantrum?

Do you think Adam would be just fine with moving to right field?

Do you think Manny wouldn't rather be playing short stop?

Ok fine, semantically, tantrum may be a bit strong of a word, and I admittedly was using it for effect.

And I think Adam would be upset, sure, but I don't think he'd ever let it seep into his on-field demeanor.  He's too brilliant a leader for that.

As for Manny, I have no idea at this point to be honest.  How much would a move to SS increase his market value?  And with his injury history, has he realized that 3b is actually the best place for him to play?  Does he like the fact that he's the best defensive third baseman in the game?

In reply to Norfolk_Orioles, go back and check the transactions. JJ signed a 4-year extension 2 years ago for 40+ million dollars. He is under control for two more years. We have kept Ubaldo in the pitching rotation on and off the last two years because he was a 10+ million dollar a year player. So how does that differ with JJ? I know that JJ has been terrible this year. He definitely has not been a 10+ million doillar a year starting shortstop. You all seem to be missing the point that a starter doesn't get benched because of an injury. Wally Pipp didn't get Gehrig's job because of an injury. Pipp got the job because Gehrig realized he could no longer perform and he gave up his job.

You know, if JJ got his job back, he just might surprise y'all and turn around and publically give it up to Beckham. Just saying he has not been treated straight up.

And I'm sure that Buck knows that.

Politely you are just wrong on so many things. JJ's contract will expire at the end of this season. There was an option that could have kicked in with about 600 ABs but he won't make it. He is gone after this year without another contract. He has not held a press conference to transfer HIS job to Beckham, but he has supported him. I really like JJ Hardy and will miss him. He has been treated very well.

    • I honestly think there is very little difference in most the teams that made the playoffs.  The most wins was 98 wins and there was 12 teams with 86 wins or more.  It also seems that many of the teams are on the same page with scouting and analytics now hitting wise.  Years back you had moneyball which the A’s used before anyone else.  Then the Astros and few teams started with analytics and seemed to be ahead of the rest of the league but they have caught up now imo.  Now the move seems to be on launch angle and hitting homers by getting the ball in the air but that seems to be across the league.  Obviously some teams have more money and more talented players but the strategy seems about the same.  The main differences I see is in pitching in the playoffs which is bullpen games and using openers rather then a starter to go 7 innings and carry your team to win now a slight sign of trouble they are taking them out.  With all these short inning guys and pitching them in certain pockets we are seeing very little offense and the hitting with runners in scoring position has been awful.  It all comes down to RISP at bats and getting 1 or 2 big base hits in those situations.  We just haven’t been able to get those hits so far in short series.
    • And we've seen similar with Kjerstad. Kjerstad might be the best pure hitting prospect in the Orioles system of recent years besides Gunnar. I want to see him playing everyday next year is possible none of this sitting him versus LHP more often than not. These prospects need to get their reps and stop treating them like John Lowenstein and Benny Ayala.
    • I don’t see Elias trading off prospects anymore at least top guys.  We have moved a few guys in last year and I expect they try to build that back up.  They should have money to use if they want to add talent.
    • Blah, well Rob Manfred has to be happy along with Fox network. A Yankees-Mets World Series match up is still on the table and the Dodgers as well if they win tomorrow. I knew the Royals would get jettisoned by the Yankees without too much of a fight.
    • For Mountcastle …Maybe Chase Petty and Tristan Smith?
    • I’m guessing they ask for Mayo or Basallo of Kjerstad. For me …I’d give them Kjerstad since he’s defensively challenged IMO. Maybe Kjerstad, McDermott, Beavers, and O’Ferrall?
    • 192 wins in two seasons is a pretty strong argument to stay the course.  That said, I wonder if the young players wouldn't be better off long-term if the scientific matchups took a back seat to the raw talent a little more than we've seen.  Overthinking something can be a thing you know.
