The Orioles are definately one of the worst run organizations in baseball. There is a small chance that some change might happen once Peter departs. However, I think the know it all mentality is likely a family characteristic.

If the kids (presumably) run this show as terribly as Peter, it's time to start questioning some things.  I can't watch another 30 years of this.

Theo Epstein was quoted the other day as saying that he is perfectly comfortable with waiting until spring training starts "before we do anything."    It seems like there is a collective game of chicken going on in MLB at the moment.

Or maybe Dan is at a beach someplace getting an early tan.

Theo:  Two WS titles, turning around moribund franchises that had each gone a significant amount of time not winning a championship.

Theo can do and say whatever he likes, IMO.

Three WS titles.    Though the Red Sox certainly weren’t moribund when he took over.

I know it's fairly early on a Sunday morning but geez.

I didn’t read down that far. Jeez.

I don’t advocate making moves to “make moves”. But why would anyone take the same last place team one year older back into the fray?

I certainly wouldn't.

But I would not be surprised if the lack of deals for Britton and Machado are not at least partially because they don't want to be seen as "losing" the trades.  Viewed in that light my ill-received joke could have a basis in fact.

Yeah, it seems like there was some guy who was GM there before Theo who obtained some pretty good players that helped win in 2004.  It wasn't Andy Macphail was it?   lol.

GM Sir: I am optimistic. We have really done a lot to address the starting pitching woes and the aggressive moves to think about the future shows management cares about competitive beyond just 1 year.

Oh wait. I forgot. The Orioles haven’t done a damn thing but the Rule 5 Draft, LOL.

But they got two starters in the Rule 5!

I think Mesa Jr can be a starter (eventually, might not be ready in 2018), but I'm not sure if the O's see him as such.  I'd happily throw him in the bullpen in order to keep him, like I've said before, I think he has the most upside of the 3 Rule 5 players.

For some reason, I’m really optimistic about Cortes.    Probably it’s just Luke’s description of him in the scouting report he did before he was drafted, and the fact that I enjoy watching that type of pitcher (not great stuff, but excellent command and super-tricky).   We’re about due for a surprise good starting pitcher who comes out of nowhere — Miggy was the last one in 2012; before that we had Guthrie in 2007 and Rodrigo Lopez in 2002.   I say Cortes will be that guy.

I think Mesa has much more upside, but Cortes is more ready right now. He should be fun to watch.
