It is often said that you should "know who's running" when you have a slow base-runner, and to subsequently not rush the play ...... the same is true when you have a very fast base-runner. On the ground-ball error that last inning inning, Cedric Mullins was not likely to be doubled up anyway because of the fact that the ball was not hit hard/fast enough for a fast runner like himself. The Athletics shortstop was thinking about turning 2, and as the Orioles' announcer stated, that is probably why he missed the ball. It was clearly a bad pitch/toss by the second-baseman, but it was also a scoopable/makeable catch if the shortstop was concentrating solely on getting the force-out, which he appeared not to be doing.

Yup - one of the reasons that having speed is a big advantage.
