9/5: 0 For A DH

I think it was a really good wake-up call (hopefully for the FO) to look over at the opponent and see the talent level needed to really be competitive.  The first four in the Jays lineup are Springer, Vlad, Bichette, and Chapman. That is a big time top 4. And it isn't like Hernandez and Gurriel are slouches at the back end of their lineup.  We are 25th in the majors as a team in OBP, which puts us only above the LA Angels, Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Oakland....teams that are each on average 29 games under .500.  So it is almost a miracle that in spite of creating so little stress for opposing pitchers on the basepaths, we still sit 7 over.

The players we have on the roster have done an amazing job, but maybe this is collectively as good as they can be.  We could use some help in the offseason, bringing in some established talent. Arbitration raises aside, our payroll is almost as low as a major league payroll could realistically be without breaking MLB minimum wage thresholds.  So there should be room to grow it....even with arbitration raises in the queue.
