I’m pretty disgusted with how the Orioles have played recently, regardless of whether they eke into the playoffs.  This shouldn’t even have been in question.

That said, I won’t give up hope that they wake up and make some noise in the playoffs.

This is where I am. This 2024 squad is just not a lot of fun to watch and that giant beeping sounds is them backing into the playoffs thanks to their great April-May.

We understand the injuries, but the lack of clutchiness is so frustrating to watch.

Any sap of enjoyment I had with this team was washed away with the absolutely horrid no outs, tie game, 9th inning, runners on 2nd and 3rd ineptitude.

They're going to make the playoffs and sure, the other wild card teams are struggling too, but unless this team has a miracle playoff run, this is just going to go down as one of the most frustrating playoff seasons to watch ever.

Is getting swept by NYY isn’t so crazy. Do we even hold Burnes and Eflin back for game 1 and 2 of the twins series?  Why waste them in NYY

NYY will probably be resting starters after they clinch the division.  I would rather just try to win a game (or 2) in the NYY series.  At this point I don't care what Wild Card the O's get.  The most important things are being as healthy as possible and lining up starters right.  I don't see any advantage on being #4 seed vs #6 seed.

You don't believe home field advantage exists in baseball?

They’ll have a good week or so after the season ends to rest their starters, I doubt they do an additional week.

Very slight advantage, but not near as big as having the optimal starters lined up.

OK cool.  Eflin is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, and Burnes on Thursday.  So they are both already lined up to be all good to go by the start of the wildcard round.  Is there someone else you are worried about?  Kremer goes tomorrow, so i guess i could see that being an issue if you really want to save him for the potential 3rd WC game.  He would technically be lined up to pitch on game 162.

I would like to have our top pitchers lined up and also to get homefield.

This right here. Thanks for putting it exactly the way I feel. Though there is one WC contender that is playing very well and they just took 4 out of 6 from the Orioles in the past week.

Given the constant talk about the Rangers and Dbacks 2023 runs, how they ended the season poorly and then went nuts in the playoffs, I thought it would be interesting to revisit each of their last 10 games of the regular season.

The Rangers went 6-4, and went into the postseason on a 1-game losing streak (which happened to cost them a division title).  They were a 90 win team overall.

AZ went 4-6, and went into the postseason on a 4-game losing streak.  They were only an 84 win team overall.

The O's in 2024 are currently 2-2, with 6 games to play.  All I know is I would feel a whole lot better going into next Tuesday having gone 4-2 in the next six, rather than 2-4.  For one thing, it would mean we actually won a series against a winning team (even if its one that's not really trying IE if the Yanks clinch, I'll take it).  Four more wins would also put us at 90, which would be a nice round number and nice to put up back to back seasons of at least that number.

Going in worse than AZ did last year would be a tough sell for me, optimism wise.

Actually not all the other WC teams are struggling right now, because right now Detroit is a WC team, and they are very much not struggling - thanks in large part to the O's.

Slate is wiped clean in the playoffs though.  At least that's what we're all telling ourselves, LOL.

Pretty much exactly what I am thinking.  I even had to cut back on my watching the games because the frustration was killing me.  Now I save all games on DVR and peek at the score if it is safe to watch.  This is odd because when the Orioles suck and they are far below .500 I watch every single game.  Sometimes every single inning of the year.

Crazy if the Orioles had STARTED the year sucking and had to spend the last two months in an amazing race to catch up for a chance for the playoffs we would all be thrilled.

But end the season on a three month skid of misery and the same playoff spot just feels empty.

Saturday's game was epically bad and not the type of loss a team on the upswing into the playoffs would suffer and one that I certainly hate to witness. I couldn't watch most of the game Sunday, but I wouldn't DVR it and then peek at the score either, I don't think that I would ever watch if I knew the outcome of a game in advance. The surprise elation (Gunnar's bases loaded double) and the agony of the non-send and inability to hit a sac fly is what keeps me coming back, old fool that I am.

I didn't watch a pitch Sunday after that Saturday debacle. I had a charity ride to attend anyways, but I was not wasting a Sunday on this 2024 squad.

I'll probably watch some of the Yankees game, but my heart is out of this squad. I still want them to win, but they have given me no reason since May to think this team has any special abilities.

Injuries hurt them for sure, but they just don't have that "it" factor. They have the choke factor down pat though. I can deal with a bad team. Hell, I ran this place through the darkest, leanest years.

But what I can't deal with is an anti-clutch team. This is a team that can look victory in the face and find a way to lose. This is team with no ability to finish off a comeback.

Hell, even in their walk offs it's after their relievers choked away a lead.

The lack of hitting is boring. The lack of situational hitting is boring. The strikeout/homerun all or nothing approach is boring. The fact that they no longer steal bases or put pressure on the defense unless you count Masolino getting guys thrown out by 10 feet, is boring.

The fact that both of their super prospects not came up did poorly, but literally crapped the bed and hit like pitchers is boring.

The fact that both of their number one overall selections have been either bad or awful is boring.

The fact that the "TOR" they picked up this offseason took a month and half "off" is boring. The fact that the Orioles still have Jimenez and Rivera on this team is boring.

It's just a boring team.

I'm just not interested in this 2024 squad and have zero faith in them that they can do anything in the playoffs. Even against the Royals (who will run all over the Orioles if they play them) or Twins, I don't give them much of a chance.

I'll never root against an Orioles team, and I hope that some miracle happens and they suddenly become a better team. But I will continue to say that this has been one of the most frustrating Orioles Playoff teams of all time.

Frustrating sure, but boring is not what I would I say. We do steal bases at times. I would like for us to play more small ball sometimes and it is frustrating to see us be so homerun happy. I think with Westy back, we will see a resurgence of timely hitting as that is very contagious.

We saw that at the beginning of the year. Amazing sight to see for sure. I think the most disheartening thing that really shocked me is the apathy and outright disgust I’ve seen from O’s fans toward their team. Perhaps we have been spoiled? No idea. Maybe expectations were too high? No idea, but frankly, a lot of yall focusing on other things and simply not watching/posting would make next season a lot more enjoyable.

This is the first time since 96-97 where we make the playoffs in back to back years and you guys have been acting like some real lame jerks this whole dang season. Frankly, yall should be ashamed of yourselves. We are an incredibly young team and with that come highs and lows, but yall don’t see that. You just love to complain and moan and bloviate. Where’s the heart? Where’s the loyalty? Where’s the gratitude? You’d think with all this team has overcome, especially being so young, y’all would be happy, but no. So go off on your little bike rides or whatever. Go watch a movie if this saga seems boring to you. I don’t care. Just for once this season, keep your immense negativity to yourself.

    • Oh, I thought you were taking about his hitting in high leverage situations.

    • Really an amazing run, 4 straight years. I completely agree with the ranking, too. There's no way Kjerstad is still a prospect though, right? 45 days is the cutoff and he's played in 48 games.
    • i think we all are going to have ptsd from that 9th inning for a while,it was that brutally bad . they need to do some special to get us to forget about it
    • wow,did gunnar and adley have to do this last season?
    • I suggested that earlier but I think it's probably a bad play with no out. The O's have like 85% probability of scoring. There is a huge downside risk of Mullins popping up the bunt for a double play. He could also whiff on the bunt making at least Holliday an easy out. With one out and only 65% probability of scoring it's a much better play. I think if Santander and Mullins were reversed in the lineup Hyde may have done it but not when you have two shots to get the run in.
