Just looking back at the series these two teams played in May in New York. Philadelphia took two of three, and perhaps should have swept the series but for a Lidge meltdown in the second game. On the other hand it took extra innings in the third game for the Phillies to win it.

In the first game, the Phillies beat up on Burnett for 6 innings, getting 8 hits, 2 walks, 5 earned runs and 3 home runs off him. Wang relieved and gave up another 6 hits and two runs. Myers was still in the rotation at this point for Philly and did well, pitching 8 innings, 8 hits, 3 earned runs. Madson pitched the ninth. 7 home runs were hit in the game, 4 by Philly.

The second game was won by New York when ARod hit a two-run home run in the ninth to tie the game, and then Cano got on , stole second, and won the game on a single by Cabrera. Pettitte pitched 7 for the Yanks, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Coke and Veras relieved. Happ started for Philly, and did well -- 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 K's. Durbin and Madson also did their jobs, but as we know now, Lidge just wasn't going to have a very good year.

The last game went into the 11th inning, when Carlos Ruiz hit an RBI double to win it for Philly. Lidge had blown another save in the game, which Hamels started -- 6 innings, 8 hits, 2 earned runs, 5 K's. Sabathia started for New York and went 8 innings, 9 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 K's. Tomko took the loss.

Overall the Phillies outscored the Yankees 15 to 11. Both teams hit 6 home runs in the series, and the Phillies had a total of 31 hits to the Yankees 29.

Pretty evenly matched teams. Should they meet in the World Series, which seems pretty darn likely, a huge difference has to be that Philadelphia now has Lee in the rotation, and if Lidge really is back to form, that's also huge for them.

The Yankees have a lot of swagger, but I think Philly feels good about their chances -- they're the defending champs, they're on a strong roll right now, and they almost swept the Yankees in New York this year.
