I just counted up the guys who I am confident will hit OK or better.

I got 8: Matt, BRob, Miggi, Nolan, Pie, AJ, Nick, and Luke.

Then I subtracted 1 because something might go wrong.

I could have added that 1 back, just because I think Snyder will show up at some point and do OK (not great, but OK), but I didn't.

So, I ended up with 7, which is the answer I gave.

I gave it an 8 but I should have gone with a 7. If Atkins can rebound some then it is an 8 but until he does he is a questionmark and Izzy is below average. However, I must say that I am really pumped to watch this lineup day in and day out. This is the most talented offense that the O's have had in a long time, maybe even since 97. Will it reach it's potential, don't know, but it is great that it at least has that potential unlike the past years.

Gave it a 7. There are 6 solid hitters, a project, a streaky hitter, and a bad hitter. Still lacks that clean up hitter who can hit 4th and doesn't have 1 person who is a lock for 30 HR's. Once they get a cleanup hitter depending on who it is it might be worthy of considering it as a 9/10.

I'm not Moose, but my sentiments on the lineup are the same as his. 7 outta 9 = roughly an 8.

I think I'd rather have Nick Johnson, LaRoche, or an Aubrey/Garko platoon over Atkins.

I hear you. Not completely sold on LaRoche, but I wouldn't have minded Nick Johnson. I'm excited to see if Atkins can regain some form and stroke the ball around.

I gave the lineup a seven. Much of that is based just on potential. If the lineup lives up to its potential, then it very well could be as high as a nine. Wieters will play a large part in whether it lives up to its potential. I'm expecting Markakis to rebound from his "disappointing" 2009 season, and if Brian Roberts were to suddenly dive off a cliff, I don't expect 2010 to be the season when it happens. The keys to the rest will be whether or not Jones can stay healthy, and which Adam Jones we see out there. Atkins is a boom or bust kind of signing, but if he regains any kind of form it will be a nice addition.

On potential alone I give the lineup a seven. If Atkins and Tejada contribute and the younger guys come along then it could be nine. If not, well...

The lineup as posted in the original post would get a 2. Izturis hitting fourth?

Ok, seriously...I gave it a 6. I still scratch my head over the Atkins signing and I'd feel better about the lineup if Pie was in it (although maybe we're facing a lefty). I sure like it better with Tejada at 3B than Crede, and I'm glad we didn't sign Hank Blalock.

I'm not sold on Nick Johnson. I know his OPS+ was 122 last year, but hit 8 homers in 574 plate appearances. I don't know about you guys, but I would expect a 1B with limited speed on the base paths to have a little more power than that.

Plus he is known to be very injury prone.

    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
    • This draft unfolded weirdly.  First with the *nix guys getting taken early and then how no defensive players got taken all draft, and then a bunch of teams reaching for OTs.  I'm pretty happy with how the draft unfolded because I think we got a player that I expected to be gone by the teens or early 20s.  I don't know what we're doing with our OL but hopefully we can maybe trade up from 62 to pick someone up.
    • I have it on dvr and I timed it four times. I got 10.75, 10.80, 10.74, and 10.78.
    • This is exactly what EDC said tonight
    • My guess is more of a safety profile than they preferred. They clearly wanted Wiggins. They ran that pick up fast. And then when you listen to the press conference, the love for the player was obvious.
