Reynolds soon

Do you have a link to that? I didn't see anything over on the Baltimore Sun sports page.
It was probably a phone call. :) or a Text.

I’ve heard the names Josh Bell and David Hernandez mentioned, and that Arizona is really looking to bolster its bullpen with a couple of young arms. I don’t know this for sure, but my gut is that the Orioles would rather trade Tillman in a deal that would land them less risky of a slugger than Reynolds who will hit his homers but also strike out at a dizzying pace. Either way, the Orioles aren’t completely sold on Reynolds -- for good reason -- and still aren’t budging on the Diamondbacks’ asking price, but the sense is that the deal is out there if they want it. The same holds true for potential deals involving shortstops J.J. Hardy and Jason Bartlett. The teams are waiting for one another to blink and get desperate, and it hasn’t happened yet.

According to Zrebiac that trade is to be had with Hernandez and Bell for Reynolds but the Orioles aren't completely sold on Reynolds. For Pete sakes get the deal done!!!!

Do you want this deal done because you are an O's fan first and feel it is a good trade for us or do you want it so DH is closer to you guys out there on the west coast?

(Btw, i am just curious here, not trying to say that it is bad or that you have an agenda or anything..i am just genuinely curious)

I didn't really know much about Reynolds except that he had 32 hr's last year, 6th in the NL. I just checked him out on baseballreference and saw that he has led the NL in k's the past 3 years and finished 2010 with a .198 average. Not to be outdone in the field, he led all 1B in errors in 2008 and 2009 while finishing first for errors at 3rd in 2008 and 2nd in 2009 and 2010.

This is who we are hoping for? Gosh, this stinks.

Huh? He's only played 3rd base and very sporadicly 1st base. He played 1st in 1, 28, and 5 games (2008-2010). He never led all 1Bman in errors in any year. Let's try this...

2008	ARI	NL	24	3B	150	149	1288.1	356	82	240	34	23	.904	-7	-9	-7	-8	2.25	2.15	.958	2.60	2.58	2008	ARI	NL	24	1B	1	0	2.0	2	1	0	1	0	.500	-1	-1	-360	-600	4.50	1.00	1.000	9.45	9.30	2009	ARI	NL	25	3B	130	128	1125.2	347	88	240	19	30	.945	-9	-6	-10	-6	2.62	2.52	.958	2.57	2.552009	ARI	NL	25	1B	28	24	218.0	202	186	11	5	28	.975	-4	-4	-24	-22	8.13	7.04	.993	9.29	9.212010	ARI	NL	26	3B	142	141	1214.0	369	101	250	18	24	.951	-7	-3	-7	-3	2.60	2.47	.951	2.54	2.52	2010	ARI	NL	26	1B	5	0	9.0	8	7	1	0	1	1.000	-1	-1	-120	-133	8.00	1.60	.988	9.20	9.14

Reynolds is will be better than Bell was last year
The good thing about a possible trade for the major league strikeout king is that he shouldn't hit into too many double plays!

Since 1990 there have been 63 players who had both 100+ runs created and 150+ strikeouts in a season. (123 total players with 150+ Ks in a season).

There have only been 40 players who created 100+ runs while striking out 50 or fewer times. (240 players with <50 Ks and 502+ PAs).

So about half of the players who strike out 150+ times create 100 runs, while only about 1/6 of the players who strike out <50 times.

Let me ask you this, would you make that deal? I would and for both reasons.

Yes I would..I would hate to lose both Bell and DH but I still make the move.

I am no GM but that deal seems to lean in Arizona's favor. David Hernandez has talent and could turn into something special, on the other hand we are taking on $$ for a guy who strkes out a ton and hit below 200 last year.

Including JJ or Bell in the deal makes this a poor trade for the O's. Hernandez alone should get er done.

JJ and Bell should be dangled for either Hardy or Bartlett.

Reynolds is likely going to be much more valuable to us than Bartlett or Hardy..unless those guys sign extensions and we could have added them as a A next year anyway.

You're saying this as a joke, but there's a lot of truth in it.

Outs matter. How you make them doesn't, especially. Reynolds can strike out 200 times a season if he does enough good in the other 450 times he comes to the plate.

You recognize the bolded in DH, but not Reynolds? He will be just 27 years old and already has 121 HRs in MLB. He hit 44 HRs just one season ago. We are disheartened when we see that players like Martinez and Konerko don't want to sign here as FAs; now here is a guy who could easily perform at that level as early as next year, and all some people can see is the downside.

The O's are not in the foreseeable future going to be able to just dip into the pool and come up with an established star. That should be obvious at this point. Their best shot is to acquire players who could realistically turn into a star. That also should be obvious, but I guess not.
