  1. Sounds like Seton Hall's Kevin Willard is the guy. He's 1-5 in the NCAA tourney overall after getting bounced in the first round yesterday. Doesn't inspire a ton of confidence but will probably have us competitive. Definitely weird Evans had to outsource the search, which is apparently what Maryland has done.
  2. Yeah Pitino would be my guy. Just throw money at him and realistically that is your best shot at someone who can instantly turn this mess around. To the guy above, Danny Manning is somehow a worse coach than Turgeon. Like, he's using the same rotation and doing nothing different. Wahab has zero game and they should be starting Reese. I DVR all these games and wind up fast forwarding because it's just unwatchable.
  3. They're in for a treat. How do you not win with Scherzer and deGrom at the top of your rotation though? Amazing situation to walk into.
  4. As if he was going to do anything that year. One Sweet 16 in a decade - and that only happened because they got Hawaii in the second round. Think he has one career win in the tourney against a major conference team. He was a decent team builder but just a lousy, lousy in game coach. BTW George Mason has lost four in a row since embarrassing Maryland. Too early to tell on Kim English. They need to nail this hire, since they basically wasted the past decade and could easily waste another if they go the wrong way here.
  5. So all it took was some booing? Fans should have done this years ago if that was the case. But he was a good guy, and the team was usually competitive so understandable and glad it sounds like things were amicable. Next hire is absolutely massive obviously. Hope they get it right. Please hire someone who can run an offense and recruit and use/develop guys effectively.
  6. We can only hope. Fatts Russell is just straight up bad. Bad shooter, bad decision maker. Like, did nobody scout him or look at his stats? Terrible fit and Turgeon's offense is generally clueless to begin with. Gross thing is they have talent with Reese, Scott, Ayala, Hart to a degree .. just gonna be completely wasted.
  7. Guys, his spin rate is good so results don't matter.
  8. 6.04 ERA in 50 2/3 innings the last four years. Like, at what point do results matter? Spin rate, whatever metrics we're looking at clearly do not translate in the bigs.
  9. Maybe they'll get freakishly lucky and get another younger Means back. I mean we totally hit on young pitching prospects all the time. It isn't like we only hit on one every 7-8 years. "Dangling for trade" implies he's gone, to me anyway.
  10. He's a decent team builder, like there's always enough talent for his teams to be competitive. But realistically you're just never going on a March run with this guy. If you gave Gary most of his teams, they'd be Sweet 16, some Elite 8 finishes mixed in. With Turgeon you're lucky to the make the tourney and win a game. His in game coaching is just so poor, there's no consistent cohesion on offense and he's really bad with player rotations and building depth. Anyway, this team is shooting 25.4% from three right now, which is especially horrible since this is the cupcake part of their schedule.
  11. On paper they seem pretty solid. Not great or anything. Donta Scott, who I really like, and Wahab, big body coming over from Georgetown, should give you two capable bigs. Danny Manning joins the coaching staff so hopefully he can help develop our bigs, which has been an issue under Turgeon. As for the guards, we know Ayala, solid core guy. We've brought in Fatts Russell to handle point to let Ayala focus on scoring more. As I type this we barely beat Hofstra. Reese looks legit, of the freshmen. Offense will be an issue though. Need more from Hart.
  12. We lost to George Mason last night. So another year with solid talent that gets wasted by Turgeon.
  13. Actually 32 million per STARTING offer. Meaning he'll get even more than that.
  14. Yeah I believe in his talent. Guy you trade cause he's injury prone then gets himself right and mashes for a few years. I do like Brian Anderson as a target though. That career OBP will keep him from being too cheap despite the down year. Still, should definitely kick the tires there.
  15. Jonathan Villar is balling out lately. Would be down for a reunion if the price is cheap enough but he probably played his way out of our price range.
  16. So outside of not staying healthy and sucking, he's a good target.
  17. Paul Fry last five appearances against Tampa Bay: 105 pitches 1.1 innings 8 hits 17 runs 15 earned runs 11 walks 0 strikeouts
  18. Another "can't miss" guy who .. missed. Yet people still have faith the next generation of "can't miss" guys won't miss.
  19. Zero faith in our ability to develop quality major league starting pitchers. Until a guy comes up and is consistently good I'm just assuming they will fail. Young guys will always have good stats in the lower minors and people will hitch their wagons to a few names and pencil their names into the big league rotation but .. it just basically never works out.
  20. This is the next disaster contract waiting to happen. Dude can't stay healthy and put up a .709 OPS with 5 homers last year and .728 in 2018. This is not someone you break the bank on.
  21. Anyone with options isn't coming here. So get ready for another washed up former "name."
  22. Didn't you know? When you "rebuild" you magically get good after 3-4 years.
  23. Yes. Reminds me of Buck and TTP. These guys are completely tunnel visioned and missing the obvious.
  24. Just so pathetic we're picking up dregs like this and wasting major league innings on them. Strong ass "rebuild" when you have absolutely no young pitching on the cusp.
