  1. Blackouts, yet another reason to leave maryland when we retire!
  2. I am wondering if they will allow the contracts to expire as they come up for renewal in order to sell or close it down?
  3. Has to be a replacement for McKenna.
  4. I don't like alot of their local coverage but the Banner does a great job with all things Orioles. It is a very informative article and discusses (I think fairly) both the internal and external issues that MASN faces. I am beginning to think that it is either sold or the rights are sold and it shuts down. This article also briefly discusses the MASN effect or the sale price of the O's
  5. The Banner has an article about MASN today. Link "While some of MASN’s problems are self-inflicted, regional sports networks no longer guarantee the lucrative supplement for traditional revenue streams like tickets, concessions, sponsorships and advertising. According to the market research firm Insider Intelligence, less than 50% of U.S. households pay for cable — with that number predicted to drop to 34.9% by 2027 — decreasing the amount of money regional sports networks bring in. Teams that rely on revenue from broadcast rights, can’t do that if the networks aren’t turning a profit. “Producing games, paying rights fees, operating the business, all of those are fixed costs,” Desser said. “When you have revenues decline, that squeezes margins.” In the last year, the broadcasts for over half of MLB teams have been in flux."
  6. I agree. My comment was kind of tongue-in-cheek. It is an impressive list though. Especially, the more recent years. Thanks for doing the research and posting.
  7. Looks like he's better than a 50/50 shot to be a HOF'er.
  8. While Old Bay Park doesn't roll off the tongue, I like it! Perfectly Maryland. To tie the two subjects together, I have had the crab pizza from Joe's Squared on North Ave, not the fake one in the inner harbor. Delicious, didn't think I would like it but I did.
  9. And the dust/grease covered wagon wheel lights overhead. I agree, not the same since the franchise exploded. But, still good. I love the precooked bacon!
  10. It was not meant to offend. I’m glad none was taken.
  11. Tide, I have not disagreed with you more on a subject since ME bypassed Austin Martin in the draft. Ledo's is king!!! I have been eating it all my life. Went to the original in CP before it took off as a chain.
  12. I have been on hundreds of domestic calls. I lost my professional bearing exactly three times. All three on domestics. You can make the same argument with any offense. If they got one DUI then they've committed 50. That's a straw man argument to me. I will repeat, I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT URIAS' SITUATION. I too am generalizing. I have also been on dozens of domestic violence calls that were bogus. But, in many cases the statutes around the country have been changed from may arrest to must arrest. Let me be clear. I am not making excuses for any person who commits domestic violence. I just know that sometimes, there is more to the story.
  13. Again, as I said, I know nothing about his situation. Unfortunately, I have dealt with many folks during the worse days of their lives as they deal with traumatic events and horrifically bad decisions. None of us would like to be judged in perpetuity for our worse mistakes. Absent something more than an accusation (which is what a criminal charge is) I don't think people should be blackballed from their profession. If baseball players were not in the public eye, we wouldn't even know about these issues. I have seen many cases were the "victim" (both male and female) made claims and even staged the incident for their own reasons of revenge or anger.
  14. Maybe it is my experience in law enforcement but just because someone is arrested and even charged, doesn't mean they are guilty. It doesn't even mean they did actually committed a crime. I have no information regarding Urias or these incidents. I am talking in general terms. I don't think an arrest without any further actions should matter from a baseball sense. This is not a political statement.
  15. Quick Question: Is the $1.7B for 100% of the O's/MASN or is it the 40% that they've been discussing? I have assumed that it was the price the "new" group is paying for 100% of the team/MASN. Also, does it include the portion that the family will keep? I don't really care but it seems like an abvious question.
  16. I have been saying this for years and it has been discussed many times. Someone confirmed this a few years ago. The MASN model is to get cable systems to add it to their basic package so they get a few dollars from every subscriber. As a result, they are only permitted to stream to those who subscribe to the cable/satellite companies. This is obviously an outdated model so I hope the new ownership changes it but, that would take a lot of unwinding and not be easy or quick.
  17. The "streak" was dumb. I'm not even sure it was real. Clearly some of his posts were canned nothing burgers and he, Melewski and whoever was the MLB.com writer, all wrote about the same thing. I would guess there were many days that his "post" were scheduled (mailbags and leftovers) and he didn't actually do anything that day. He has gotten more and more self-absorbed over the last few years. I think it is time for him to move on.
  18. Here is a sample from their board. I thought the OH was drama... Oh my. Baltimore is already ahead of where the Astros were. Samuel Basallo is basically Yordan Alvarez and no one is talking about him. It's over. The Toronto Blue Jays as a functional franchise has ended. The Orioles are now a better version of the Astros owned by a billionaire. 100 win seasons for the next 20 years. I'm being a bit dramatic. No I am not. The greatest prospect in Blue Jays history was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who was talked about as a legend from day 1. As an 18 year old Samuel Basallo was ahead of Guerrero and Juan Soto at 18. And no one is talking about him because he is like the 5th best prospect they've developed in the last 2 years. Congratulations to the Baltimore Orioles for creating the greatest franchise ever. Congratulations to David Rubstein for buying the best group of talent ever. The Toronto Blue will win 78 games with 90 win talent because of the division.
  19. He is not a fool until the best offer is rescinded. January 9th is not some kind of deadline for anything. He is being patient and trying to get what he thinks is the best deal. We don't know what the O's or any other team has offered except for "reports and sources" which may or may not be accurate. BTW, I don't even like Cease that much. He could revert back to his near Cy Young year or he could continue to slide. It is probably even money at this point at best. If they are going to expend that much prospect capital and years of control then I'd like someone who doesn't need to reclaim his best year. He has been a 3-5 guy than he's been a 1-3 guy.
  20. I can’t argue that but there is a reason so many scouting/ranking folks are sky high on him. I wouldn’t discard him as being redundant at this point.
  21. Auto-correct must have sniped me.
