  1. It's ironic, I am a Steelers fan but I hate the Pirates with all my being. Two WS losses up 3-2 in 71 and 3-1 in 79.
  2. You know, I thought about this on occasion. When I was a kid I got to root for the O's from 69 - 83 when they were the best team in baseball over that stretch. In many ways that's still how I view them emotionally. My three sons though grew up watching them lose except for the brief window from 12- 16. They have a much different perception of the team than I do and that's sad.
  3. I am older than you and remember the 69 - 71 teams but just barely. Ironically, some of the better O's teams were in the mid 70's that ran into the A's teams. 89 was one of my favorites too. I have found this team exciting and fun but I have also felt weirdly reserved like I was waiting for the bottom to fall out. It has kept me from enjoying it as much as I should. I was really disappointed with the 14 team for getting swept by the Royals. I will be at Sundays game against the Rays. I am very much looking forward to the playoffs with no expectations but to just enjoy it.
  4. Unless something changed with this CBA (I don't think it did) then yes, Hicks is paid by the Yankees for the entirety of his contract minus whatever his current club pays him. Therefore, there is no incentive by his current club or Hicks for them to pay anything above minimum. This is not new and it has been this way for many years. The same back and forth took place on the board when he was first acquired. Hicks was signed by the O's as a free agent and can sign with any team for next year. But it will still likely be at the minimum because of the above. I don't remember off the top of my head when the NYY contract expires but I think its after the 25 season. I was surprised because folks on this board are usually on top of this stuff.
  5. I agree. I have heard of guys rehabbing a partial tear but it is rare. Although details are unclear to the fans, I am sure that his reps and the union have all the available information.
  6. Apparently, MLB sends out an update every day on the various teams and their magic number. It has to do with W/L obviously but also the remaining schedule and matchups for various teams. It sounded pretty complicated. I assume they are just going off that number.
  7. He has reps and the union. There is no way the O's can force him to do anything. There must be at least some medical opinion/evidence that suggests that it is okay to go down this road or his reps and the union wouldn't allow it.
  8. Schanuel can hit. Power will come I think.
  9. I guess we will see who is correct. I like Santander but I think he will not be here at the end of 2024.
  10. I don't think its an "on field only" decision. I would agree with you if all things were equal but, Santander's pending FA makes him different.
  11. He did look good last night. As long as he is only starting 1 or 2 times a week
  12. I would love for this to happen but, I don't think it is going to so I hope they keep him on the pen and he continues to develop into a shut down reliever. He can be a weapon as a bridge guy who can go two - three innings (ala Hader) to get to the closer. I think he'd be more valuable as that than a closer.
  13. I am aware of the discussion and I have participated in that discussion. My opinion is that he is traded this offseason.
  14. You mean the guy who has played at 4 levels this year and they've promoted three times in the last 5 months.? I think it is definitely possible.
  15. I predict that Santander is traded this offseason. He is due a pretty big raise in arbitration and he's entering his walk year. They shouldn't extend him so this is the time to flip him for younger prospects.
  16. He doesn't have to. With the number of SS that are on the team or MLB ready, he can just let it play out and if he;s ready he makes the team, if not he's back at AAA and Gunnar, Ortiz etc. play SS
  17. If Gibson is on the postseason roster and I hope not, the only way he should be used is to save the bullpen if a game gets out of hand early. He is exactly who we thought he was going to be. An innings eater with a +5 ERA. That's not what you need in the playoffs. That game yesterday was one of the most frustrating games of the year. No way Gibson or Voth should be on the postseason roster.
  18. He can't just move the team. This isn't the NFL. It would have to be approved by the owners and that ain't happening period...end of story!!!!
  19. Gibson and Voth need to be off the team now. This is ridiculous. Even his outing against the Jays he was shaky early and was fortunate to get past the 4th when he settled down.
  20. I'd rather have Hicks than McKenna. They both may be on the expanded roster. But I don't think it matters much. I just hope it's not a 3rd catcher. I expect the pitcher to be Wells and Means added later. Who goes when Means is activated? Could be Irvin or Fuji, anyone else? I don't think Baker/Vespi/Krehbiel/Baumann make it back. Of those I guess Baumann is the most likely.
  21. lol value is value. Thanks for your opinion. That's what message boards are for.
  22. If I did the spreadsheet correctly, the O's spent $11,384,800 total on the 2023 draft. Thats down from well over !9M
  23. Guys like these are traded every year. I said they didn't have much value but they could fetch cash or maybe even international slot $. I think Wells is more than a waiver claim and at least one GM gave up a low-level prospect for Irvin. There might be a second one out there.
