  1. I actually like this team. They don't quit. They don't care that they're not supposed to be good. Like a boxer that gets his face beat in and gets up off the canvas asking for more, they're always ready for the next round. They'll get destroyed one night and come back the next like nothing happened. I felt like last years team was sleepwalking through the season by June. This team, as bad as they've been and as bad as they can be is infinitely more fun to watch. I'm thrilled that they came out on top of that 16 inning game, that has to be very satisfying.
  2. First full ML season, I am expecting some regression here heading into August. And I agree with @Il BuonO, the changeup needs to be on. He did rebound nicely from the previous bad start with a great start against the Sox. Looking forward to seeing how he rebounds from this one. For me though, it's all about how he's pitching this time, next season. Has to prove that he's more than a one year wonder.
  3. Not much of a stretch. Santander has a position.
  4. God, how little Yaz makes it to the ballpark without a walker is amazing to me.
  5. Totally missed the news about Doc Gooden. That's very sad. The 30 for 30 was fantastic. But Doc looked terrible.
  6. Well, Stewart needs some at bats. We'll see.
  7. He's versatile, he's got some pop. I like Stevie. But maybe I should have said I'd rather have Little Yaz rather than Smith.
  8. Little Yaz is holding his own. I'd rather have him than Stevie. Even though I like Stevie.
  9. I guess when you take expectations into account, yeah, he's having a great year. I don't think any of us expected him to hit .300. Sure, it's a hollow .300 but it's still fun. Hanser is a fun ballplayer. And he'd probably have a home on a team that had guys with better on base percentages around him in the lineup.
  10. Maybe we can get....THREE 17 year old DSL prospects for him!!
  11. He's just prone to have a game like this every so often where he gets lit up. It's why he's not a #1. More like a #3 or #4.
  12. On the flip side, you know you can salvage the rest of your evening sometimes.
  13. My research has informed me that it's damn near impossible to get this big with "normal weight training" Anyway, whatever.
  14. I'm over here waiting for the other shoe to drop. Want to see how he handles a slump and how he bounces back.
  15. I can't help but read this and equate it to a certain someone's twitter feed. Sounds just like it.
  16. It's weird how these guys look like ballplayers and yet how little they win games.
  17. If he hangs on 4 more years and keeps producing at this rate, he'll get there. 679 hits to go, divided by 180 hits he gets on yearly average, 3.77 years. Round that up to 4 because of physical decline. So in July/Aug of 2023 he could be getting his 3,000th hit. That's a long way away from now but...man, it'd be awesome.
  18. Right, I understand that. And thank you for doing that research. I suppose if we're talking FIP here, his still has a lot of separation from his ERA because of a lower K rate than league average. His walk rate and HR rate is also lower than league average, but not by as much as the K rate.
  19. Sale also placed top 5 in Cy Young voting. I am glad to see his FIP slowly starting to come down. Quite frankly, I am not sure how it's not lower than it is but whatever. I understand what goes into the statistic, it's just that his K rate is decent, as is his k/bb ratio. He hasn't given up a ton of homers. The WHIP is fantastic. So maybe FIP takes a little longer to even out. The rest of the peripherals are positive enough for me. I'm not 100% buying in and saying he's for real. IMO, he needs to be having the same performances this time next year for me to believe the hype. I'm happy he's having a great season, happy he's an All-Star. He's probably the best part of the season so far. We've just seen too many one year wonders. However, what gives me hope that he is for real is that changeup. That pitch, I believe, is legit. And I think a really good changeup is more devastating than any breaking ball. Not sure if he can get to qualifying for the ERA title or not. Despite that, he's on pace to up close to a 7 WAR season. He might even get some Cy Young votes if that happens. I am hoping Vlad Jr doesn't light it up this season. I feel like the media was ready to anoint him rookie of the year before the season started...everyone wanted to see him come up and crush right away. It'd be great if Means could somehow win 15 games on a terrible team, have a 2.50ish ERA and take home the AL ROY while Vlad Jr scuffles along in his first year.

  21. Drop Davis, Mancini to first, Sisco to DH on days he's not "catching". It all seems too simple.
  22. Agreed. I mean I think the Orioles got better in marketing during the recent playoff seasons but they seem even better at it now. I believe that you're correct that Elias probably brought in social media savvy people but the fact that he's very transparent and accessible is part of it, too. The Walk With Elias t-shirt coming up is genius.
