  1. MASN is saying they aren't broadcasting the exhibition games to put there employees at risk for games that don't count. I don't think they are broadcasting them on radio as well.
  2. I just hope that Means is decent, high 3's ERA. Certainly if he is better that would be great. I just don't want him to look like last year was a fluke. You hope Cobb can give you 4 out of 6 decent starts and you flip him for whatever you can. Let's face it Wojo, LeBlanc, and Malone are just bodies because someone has to pitch. I have zero expectations. Hope one of them surprises us but even if they do they won't bring anything. Cobb has a past of being a decent pitcher these three really don't. I will be paying much more attention when Stewart pitches. Certainly being a former 4th player in a draft you can hope he has some talent that these guys can find. Certainly I look forward to Akin and Kremer hopefully showing something this year. That is what I would consider progress.
  3. Before it got shut down the TV crew included Palmer, Thorne, Ben McDonald, Scott Garceau, and I think others but not Jim Hunter this year. I am not sure how they will split up 60 games. I heard Scott Garceau say today on the radio he was getting ready to back to work. I think they are broadcasting the games not at the ballpark but I am not positive about that.
  4. Roch says in his article today that he hasn't seen Dwight Smith Jr or Anthony Santander on the field yet. DJ Stewart certainly will get many at bats if either or both are out. They are saying that to get the extra year of service time players like Mountcastle will only have to be down for a week. It seems he will get a chance sooner than later. Also Roch added in another article that Alex Cobb and Mychael Givens have not been spotted as well.
  5. Geez, thanks for spoiling it for me! Sorry Steve! I won't tell you who won the series!
  6. I watched Game 2 earlier this week. I was just amazed in the top of the 9th inning with two outs the Orioles were winning 4-3 and I think it was Dave Johnson who singled. They then intentionally walked the 8th hitter Mark Belanger to pitch to Palmer. Weaver let him bat with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs. That just floored me. Palmer retired the first two in the bottom of the 9th and walked Pete Rose on 4 pitches and Weaver pulled him for Pete Richart , Lefty on lefty. He ended the game on one pitch. I don't know how many pitches Palmer had thrown through 8 innings. Of course it never came up. I am sure it was well over 100.
  7. Like many of these kids they have picked up he had a hell of a short season this year. Also they will need some extra cash to feed these kids. Not a small man here either!
  8. Add RHP Brandon Young, Louisiana-Lafayette to the signees.
  9. The kid put an Oriole hat on right after he was picked so he knew what was going to happen. I suspect his contract has been agreed upon. You have to look at this on what combination of talent they can draft and sign by going underslot with this pick to evaluate this pick. Any way you look at it as Ken Weinman said it will be 3 more years before we know anything for sure.
  10. One thing I was thinking about these guys is if the NCAA had a brain they would allow these guys if they wanted to be allowed to play college baseball and receive free educations. Yes it would take away positions from other players but it would raise the level of play in college baseball. Some of them would look at it as a second chance to play pro baseball but hopefully they could come out of it with a college degree.
  11. There will never be a better excuse to bring in an electronic strike zone then now. The two closes people on a field is the home plate umpire and the catcher. I know they said before all this the umpire was still going to be there to override the machine but just rethink that.
  12. Yes he is. With a cap there will be a floor. The percentage of player compensation is going down because the owners have finally figured out they have to pay the few stars because the few larger markets will bid them up but squeeze out the older and not so big stars. A floor forces the Orioles, Rays, etc to bid on more players and not tank and rely solely on drafting and developing younger controllable players to try to be competitive. One thing the cap and floor assure the NFL and NBA players over time is that average player salaries go up along with revenues. That hasn't applied to baseball salaries even up until now when revenues have increased. Both sides have to face the reality that increase in revenues have abruptly ended for the near future and everyone is going to have to adjust their expectations.
  13. I think it is going to be tough for Sports, Concerts or anything with large crowds to happen until they find a vaccine for this. Which probably means at best until next year. I just wonder if sports leagues will take the chance that any large crowd may risk any outbreak of this. The projected deaths are going up and down on a daily basis and I don't want to get in the politics behind all of that one way or the other. I think the general answer is that no one knows for sure. Eventually they are going to have to let people go back to work and open restaurants, small business's etc. There will be a risk to that but at some point is going to have to happen. I just think playing and watching sports, concerts are going to be the last thing that people are going to look at as essential. Maybe they will play sports without crowds but I can see the first player that tests positive shutting things down right away again. I don't see any way college football and college basketball start in 2020. Only if the number of cases drops off a cliff by late June or July. As testing increases I don't see that happening. I hope I am wrong.
  14. Yes and this also was the case for Microsoft in licensing DOS and then Windows for any PC manufacturer. Although Apple had the superior operating system and hardware Jobs didn't believe in giving it away. The Ipod saved Apple and allowed their computer hardware to survive. Even though Microsoft and Apple both are large wealthy corporations, Apple had the last laugh on all that. However barely.
  15. I assume the players will only get paid for the games they end up playing if any. If a player has a 3 year contract and they only play a half a season do they just lose that half of season? If they don't play at all and have a 3 year deal do they have 2 years or 3 years left? Does a player have to wait the extra year to become a free agent or reach arbitration?
  16. You know I don't think that idea is that horrible. It would be easier to gear up pitchers to a 5 inning game. Sure this season and everything involved will be an outlier forever. There is nothing that can be done now to change that.
  17. When and if they get to start the season I suspect they will have expanded rosters for a couple weeks.
  18. I like Brett Hollander. Is he still going to work on WBAL radio and doing both? Update I just did my own research and see he left WBAL for this position. I think much thought has gone into these changes the new Oriole regime has put in. I like the people they have hired and agree with the ones they have replaced. To me they have taken a deep dive into what the fans opinion and viewpoint on these issues. No it won't make a bit of difference on the win/loss total but they are trying to make the total experience better. It is appreciated by me.
  19. I will bet Hunter was under a multi year contract and they had to pay him anyway. I am glad he isn't doing play by play anymore. I will bet he will not be on the broadcasts at all next season.
  20. I can't agree with this any more. Hunter has always annoyed me on TV or radio. Bordick seems like a nice guy but he just doesn't add anything entertaining. He goes out of his way to not offend anyone. He did a segment on 105.7 yesterday and said Chris Davis "looks like the crusher again". Whatever that means.
  21. I am surprised no one has commented on gaining 25 pounds in about 4 months. It is almost impossible to gain that much muscle without help. Especially for someone who has worked out their entire life.
  22. The one thing this cap has done is brought is universal consensus here at the Hangout for maybe the first time. Everyone hates this cap!!
