  1. I suspect there are other moves in the works that aren't public yet. Either a promotion for Westburg and/or Gunnar or someone is injured. Probably a promotion is my guess.
  2. I'd wager they do 2 weeks in extended rather than 1. They slow play everything.
  3. I'd like to change my vote to no. Totally respect Mussina. Understand he wasn't all that likable. Completely blame Angelos for letting him go. Still, number retirements are for all time, no doubters. As great as he was, being ~50% Yankee, no WS, no Cy Youngs with us, I'm thinking O's HoF is what I should support, not number retired.
  4. I actually think that Elias is probably thinking that if he's already this delayed, might as well add another couple of weeks to avoid Super 2 issues.
  5. Ehh. He's from Texas. Not exactly the frozen tundra.
  6. And zero sense all at the same time. He should be in Baltimore. This is absurd. Not getting absurd. Already absurd.

This is exactly what I was about to look up. Thanks for posting. Another great reminder that we're still in small sample size territory, though probably getting toward the end of that.
  8. Gunnar up. Volpe and Cowser down.
  9. You trade for pitching or a SS.
  10. Does a player need to be on a contract to be suspended? I assume so, but could be wrong. I just have a feeling the O's knew this was coming before they signed him. Kind of did him a solid by putting him in an org so he can get through the suspension. Maybe I'm making stuff up. I don't know. lol
  11. So polar opposites. Definitely worth noting in that comparison.

I really think the K's are a product of the approach the O's are taking. They're trying to master knowledge of the strike zone. That's what their "swing decisions" approach really is all about. I wonder if the data says this is true, but my impression is their players are being pretty ultra selective which results in getting deep into pitcher's counts and then naturally striking out more. It's a pure "playing for the future" approach to player development. They care much less if Mayo rakes in A ball than they care about whether he's prepared for the majors. See Cowser. See Stowers. Just my theory. Not supported by data or any specific reports. Gunnar Henderson would seem to be on the other end of learning this approach, which is amazing.

This might be the greatest post in message board history.
  14. Occam's Razor: the simplest solution is the best. If you believe that, then given his history and the history of baseball, Cowser's just in a bad slump that he'll get out of eventually. Let's hope so.
  15. I understand and agree that Grayson is ready for the majors, but... I still think he's getting used to the ball in AAA. I know that was kind of dismissed after his start, but he hasn't been very sharp on several outings in a row. I also think a lot of his K's are coming on high fastballs that pros are more likely to lay off of. This is nitpicking, but I don't think he's at his best at this moment. That's still likely better than 1/2 of the major league starters right now. Can't wait until he really settles in.
  16. [EDIT: MADE A POST ABOUT WILLIAMS, NOT WILLEMS.]
  17. I heard on a podcast from a former coach that he was a great locker room presence. It was during a convo that wasn’t otherwise about Westburg. It was recalling him in the Os org last season, so it wasn’t old news.
  18. Craig’s a guy I was curious about. This thread was helpful to me even if only to understand why there wasn’t a thread on him. Lol.
  19. Saw Connaughton in a box score the other night. Guy really made the right choice.
  20. Right. This thread is certainly fine, but listening to the radio all I think of is that people need to pump the brakes. We are better than we've been. We're also more fun, and next week hopefully we get another major promotion. It's positive. Certainly more so than the Rangers with their Semien ($175 million) and Seagar ($325 million) purchases.
  21. Through 3 2/3: AR with a bomb. Henderson 2 k's. Westburg/Mundy 2 bbs. Hall just got pulled after giving up a doublt. 6 k's. 1 BB. 3 H. 0 runs, but left men on 2nd/3rd so we'll see.
  22. You may very well be right, but Ortiz was a guy who hit in college (extreme hitter's environment) and showed some really nice hitting flashes last year. Then the hype around his swing/physical growth came. Now he is probably not going to be that guy. Tony's ranking would suggest you're right, but it wasn't unreasonable to hope for more and it's still really not unreasonable, IMO. That said, it's not looking good so far this year.
