  1. @Tony-OH I know this is everyone's question lately, but assuming you have to play all 3 because their bat hits, where do you play Mayo/Kjerstad/Basallo with their defensive profiles? 1B/RF/DH respectively or does something make more sense?
  2. I know this is about the 3 FA pitchers, but it's also about extracting value of these guys to say which has the most value. I see Cease's name also mentioned. Why not try to align with the M's for one of their pitchers In a ready prospect for ready prospect deal. Miller/Woo/Kirby/Gilbert/Hancock vs. Ortiz/Westburg/Cowser/Kjerstad/Mayo. Make it work. Then you don't have to worry about paying one of these guys, if we'll open the check book, you get the value back in the arb years and you don't have to worry about how you squeeze your prospects in playing time.
  3. Makes you want to follow the Braves model if you believe in yourself. Lock up all these guys (Rutsch, Gunnar, Bradish, Rodriguez) through age 32 or so and see what shakes on the back end. Make a slight overpay to know you've got an 8 year competitive window.
  4. I actually agree but think that Sig and Elias know something we don't. For example, they've now almost intentionally not let Cowser, and to a large extent Stowers, see the field. Both guys have not produced when given opportunities. Same with Joey Ortiz. However, they've given significant at bats to younger guys when they see fit, like Westburg and Kjerstad. The may have found something in the batted ball data, their ability to handle pitches, etc, that doesn't just lie in the numbers. So I'd guess that whatever guys we see, they produce. And if they are hiding in AAA still producing against AAA pitching, there's a reason.
  5. I think everyone is crazy in the trade Hays category. No one in this front office would trade Hays, given what he provides in his grit and defensive capability at home in LF. Much more likely we trade Cowser/Kjerstad.
  6. I know many have weighed in but here's my 2 cents: Frazier, Hicks, O'Hearn, Urias, Mateo gone - hopefully we get something back of slight value for O'Hearn/Mateo/Urias - could keep one of the IF until Holliday up. Cowser up in a Hicks+ role. He spells Hays against tough righties, gives Mullins 2 days off per week, and plays 2 days in right. Kjerstad up as primary RF. Sits against lefties for now Santander as primary DH, plays RF against tough lefties. Mountcastle as primary DH, sits against tough righties Westburg as primary 3B until Mayo is ready with one of Urias/Mateo backup Norby up as backup 2B/injury shuffle until Holliday ready - ideally traded though given the depth. Ortiz as primary SS on OD - sorry not pushing out Gunnar Holliday starts in minors - primary 2B after about a month. Mayo - I hold him down until so he can be ROY eligible in 25. Make him a late August callup. Stowers - traded or kept down in case injuries to Hays/Cowser/Santader/Kjerstad This pretty much pushes all the fielders up this year and maximizes your next 5 years. You can see who works, and who needs to be traded off next year. Also, if everyone works, you can move off of Hays/Santander/Mountcastle in a year.
  7. And we traded Tobias Myers for Tim Beckham I think
  8. Wonder if you can always have two guys up in the pen, and see if Fuji has it between the ears that day or not with a call to or from the pen. Or is everyone sharp generally in the pen and then it falls apart on the bump?
  9. I wanted Bassitt and Eovaldi. Check the notes! Oh well, this team has excellent chemistry as is.
  10. Guessing you're in it now. I couldn't tell, but the system will show seats as available even if there's only a single in the section. At least for me. I bought ALDS 1/2 and ALCS 1 and got sections 85/74/83 respectively with no issue.
  11. Two things that I saw and not sure where else to post them: - why was Adley the runner at 2B in the 11th when Santander made the last out in the 10th - did anyone see Flahrety right after they came back towards the dugout? He looked very Flahrety in the sense that he rejected a hat and shirt at first, and posted up on the dugout rail. I assume he got one eventually, but couldn’t follow him from farther away.
  12. I think you're going to have to see an Irvin piggyback today. And get multiple innings. Hopefully the game is one-sided and even better in our favor. You should also see Hall today who could give you some 2 inning length if needed, and Webb.
  13. Isn't there a difference between a strain and a tear through? If you have no UCL, i'm sure it's immediate pain. What about if it's just "pulled" or strained.
  14. Don't know until you find out. But again, what's the harm in finding out? If he spends a month on the IL, then goes to rehab for a week, and has immense pain, then shut him down. If there's no pain, and he's effective, then give him a shot the last week of the season to make the playoff roster. No one has said it was torn through. If it was, he'd be off for surgery now.
  15. Maybe I missed it somewhere in this thread, but what's the difference between shutting him down now, and rehabbing him now until October to see if there's a chance we can get something out of him? You have 15-18 months of surgery/recovery/rehab either way, so might as well see if he can push you in the playoffs. Is there a discernible difference between rehabbing now to give it a shot, and potentially completely tearing it, or just shutting it down and having surgery tomorrow?
  16. I understand why the addition as the leadoff hitter, but I still think he'd be better in the 2 or 3 hole. If Mullins can regain something the rest of the way, moving him up and Adley back down helps.
  17. Anyone shocked at the omissions? I'm shocked by Norby. He gets an overall grade of 50, has proven almost everything at the highest levels. Maybe i'm just nit picking because our talent is so deep.
  18. Should have kept him down as rookie eligible for next year so we get the extra pick!
  19. Wonder if we could see a Wells piggy back here? He's scheduled to start Saturday in Bowie currently.
  20. 1. McKenna also cost us a game this year on a much easier catch. Send him down then over those other guys. 2. The misplay was a long single that would have turned 1 out into 2. Assuming Tucker still hits a home run, we're still in a tied game.
  21. Every bit of this. When Mullins comes back, Mateo goes back to the bench for a pinch runner replacement for O'Hearn/McCann/Santander. Hays/Cowser should get the regular backup reps in CF. So you're really asking is the potential upside of Ortiz/Holliday better than when you know from Urias/Westburg. I'd say it could be, but at present, there's too much risk in that result. If you thought Ortiz was better at 2B than Westburg, then you wait until September and making him a defensive replacement in late innings. If you think Holliday could outhit Urias, then you wait until September to bring him up as a pinch hitter - but in reality, someone like O'Hearn/Mountcastle/Santander are on your bench already to pinch hit.
  22. This is a problem. I bought my food, it checked me out which worked just fine, and there was a guy standing there, probably getting paid $15-$20 an hour to watch the machine do it's job. Not one guy for all four self-checkouts. 4 people for 4 self checkouts. Now think about efficiencies and how they could better put those 4 people to use.
  23. I understand that Ortiz at SS, and Gunnar at 3B would be solid, but you really think that Ortiz could OPS+ 97 or better here? I like his hitting approach, but saying he'd out perform a GG 3B in Urias with the bat and the glove may be a big ask. That's why my general theme is pitching. I think we have enough "options" in the IF. They continue to get it done. And once Mullins comes back, hopefully healthy, the OF will look better. So let's target the bullpen that has been shaky in the middle innings. Hall would be a huge lift (as would Wells) to the roster in the pen.
  24. Any chance this makes us more (or less) likely to resign Flarehty? Could be a high upside guy, even though he's had an injury history. He also had a top 5 Cy Young year. Obviously a problem for after the season, but he was always a pitcher I liked and might be in the Os price range anyways.
  25. I assume this thread has a follow on thread that says assuming he gets $X/Y years, would you resign him or trade him? I'll start that path early, as I see three options: - Resign him for $X/Y years - Hold on to him for one more year, then extend the QO and see what happens - Trade him now: Options would be 4 minor leaguers or maybe a package in Seattle centered around one of their young SPs. To add to this, what is a reasonable package in return for Santander in the offseason?
