TT: Scouting the 40 man: Who will be part of a winning future?
thezeroes replied to Tony-OH's topic in Orioles Talk
If there is a REAL NEED on the Forty Man to protect a player from the Rule 5, Davis is first on my list over the fall/winter -
The reason some of these players MAY have fell to the Orioles is that their Mental Aspect of the Game leaves a LOT to be desired. You can teach, teach teach until blue in the face BUT if the student is unwilling or unable to retain said teachings then how does that fall to the teachers??

Ubaldo Jimenez was better when Caleb caught (4.22 ERA) than when Wieters caught (5.89 ERA) but he still sucked either way.

If a ball gets thrown out of play from the field, the rule is the base your going to plus two. All throws from the outfield. All throws from the outfield that go out of play are treated the same as second throw from the infield. That is, the ball is dead and all runners, including the batter-runner, are awarded two bases from the time of the throw. https://www.umpirebible.com/index.php/rules-base-running/awarding-bases#two

Fangraphs: Orioles have good reason to be excited about Trey Mancini

.429/.493/.889/1.382 Slash line in the first inning. Answers the highlighted part. First innings usually have the Orioles still in games. -
Yeah, there is always that.

Cashner has implied that he may retire instead of accepting a trade.

383 Games that a starter was in the game for 7 innings 355 Quality starts out of those 383 games 137 pitchers have pitched 7 innings or more 133 of them had Quality Starts

The season is a journey with different pit stops along the way. As in any journey, you go up hill to go down hill and vice-versa. The journey is scheduled to end September 29th on a Sunday against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. I wonder if the orioles will have another Andino Moment on that day more than I worry about the BOTTOM.

He was up for one game earlier in the year. He is 27 years of age (28 in October) hence not a prospect just filler. https://www.mlb.com/player/matt-wotherspoon-642226 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=wother000mat

When you are in the first year of ANY TYPE of redesign in team philosophy (Analytics and Implementation) there is going to be some growing pains just trying to get the two to seven year players in the system to ADJUST and BUY IN. We have also heard from the the GM to the Manager that this year is for EVALUATION. The interesting part of this year, irregardless of the record, is who will be left standing through the winter. This will be the answer as to who BOUGHT IN and who thought they KNEW MORE than Management.

Tanner Scott has another option year remaining. He is 24 years of age with some upside. If you DFA him, the first team that is eligible to claim him will IMO. -

How does a pitcher prepare for what he is going to see at the MLB Level if he does not get the chances to iron the wrinkles out??? Not every one that gets promoted instantly has success and not everyone that gets multiple chances , stick. At some point the proof will be in the performance but with out allowing the performer to perform, you never know. -

A Bullpen Game is when a team uses just Bullpen Pieces for the game, An opener game is as you described it. -
Bundy has been atrocious, is his future as a closer?
thezeroes replied to Rene88's topic in Orioles Talk
Yes, FIP has an adjustment to make it Mimic ERA. This year you add 3.17 to the formula to get the FIP so it will mirror league ERA Fielding Independent Pitching this stat measures a pitcher's effectiveness at preventing HR, BB, HBP and causing SO (13*HR + 3*(BB+HBP) - 2*SO)/IP + Constantlg The constant is set so that each season MLB average FIP is the same as the MLB avg ERA -
He has been acting like a well paid superstar for a while now.

I consider placing players on the Forty Man part of the Service Time. Once put on the forty a player can be optioned for three years but then it limits your ability once the three years is up. Take Dylan Bundy for an example. Placed on the forty right after signing, injured used options up while rehabbing from surgery, Was not placed on the sixty because that counts against his service clock. If he had signed a conventional contract, his options would have remained intact through his TJ Surgery.
-
Service time considerations, not ready for prime time, injured, recovering from injury, worse that what is already here, and did I mention service time.

League average FIP is 4.44, League average ERA is 4.43. Home-runs overall are up which drives FIP. -
Maybe, just maybe some players are getting the start because of a Left Hander on the mound. don't let that get in the way of a rant though, Carry on.
