  1. So ummmmm https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-power/state-government/orioles-lease-deal-camden-yards-B7QHEQP47VGUDASBSHCMHRQL7A/
  2. The Yankees gave up something like 8 pitchers to acquire Verdugo and Soto? That has to make a dent in their depth right.
  3. Looks like the expected Opening Day lineup for them would be something like Verdugo in LF, Judge in center, Soto in RF. Stanton DH. I think that is a very risky plan for a full season to keep running Judge out there in center at 32.
  4. Not saying that it was a great deal by any means. But it looks like it wasn't quite as bad as 7M wasted. Orioles Release Mychal Givens - MLB Trade Rumors Looks like his 2023 salary was $3M and then there was the $2M buyout. Still not great at all. But 5M wasted isn't quite as painful as 7.
  5. This is actually some of the biggest news of the winter meetings so far as an O's fan. I am both encouraged (that they seem pretty clearly to be trying to extend these guys) and discouraged (that it hasn't happened yet). What precedents exist for Boras clients signing big extensions when they are still many years away from free agency?
  6. I don't know about 'wheels about to fall off' but guys don't typically tend to get better in their mid-to-late 30s. He will be 36 this year. His HR rate is elevated a bit compared to his averages. His K rate is down. His BB rate doesn't really impress me but it is consistent with the majority of his career tbf. That all being said..... BB-ref has him as sub replacement level in 2019 and 2020. Very good in 2021. Replacement level in 2022....then solid again overall last season. He should be a decent signing but I can see why people aren't super stoked about this possibility.
  7. A corner OF with an OPS under .750 in 2023 and is a FA after this year......am I missing something?
  8. I think very few teams have a shot at him in 2024.
  9. What happens if the state and Orioles can't come to a deal by Dec 31st? MSA executive director Michael Fenz said he'd expect them to go to a "month-to-month" agreement. "I, mean, certainly, we're not going to kick them out on 12/31 or January 1." Ok so that is somewhat reassuring. The O's will just be free to use the facilities on a month to month basis. Yay?
  10. If Elias was feeling pressure to get a deal done, he would still say he is not under pressure. If Elias truly does feel no pressure, he would be open about not feeling under pressure. He is incredibly disciplined with messaging (to put it mildly) so imo when he says something like this it does not actually convey any useful information at all. Elias knows that there is nothing advantageous about signaling to other teams that you are desperate to make a deal. (or feeling strong pressure to get something done). He is playing things the way he always does......not tipping his hand or revealing any info unless it makes strategic sense. Kind of a bummer for us fans that follow everything so closely, but we will know soon how eager he was to make a deal.
  11. The most elite of prospects that we have had in the Elias era have made the team out of Spring Training (Gunnar) or were SUPPOSED to when injuries intervened (Adley). Basically I think whenever Elias feels he has a decent shot to get the RotY extra picks....he is going to go for it.
  12. I have been consistently saying I thoroughly expect Holliday to make the O's out of Spring Training. I know some prominent users disagree. But i think they are misreading Elias and his history / strategic thinking.
  13. 27 days left until the team is de facto homeless. Still not seeing very many stories in national (or esp local) news coverage. IDK seems like this is something worth covering pretty closely. Even if only to apply pressure to the......stubborn individuals in charge.
  14. Honest question. If you're Elias and Nola's agent called you directly.........and said, "Hey, my guy will sign with you tomorrow for 7 years $172M." Would you say yes? I don't think I would.
  15. Great work team. Next step.........let's confirm where the Orioles are going to be playing their home games after Dec 31.
  16. Not saying it would be a bad signing. But it doesn't really seem to jive with what Elias said earlier about wanting to add reinforcements to the "front end" of our rotation. Maybe we would add another guy as well?
  17. Do the Cardinals have a full rotation yet? Good grief. Seems like they are signing everyone they see.
  18. Was planning on bumping this tomorrow and then doing a quasi regular countdown. But now since it's in the forefront again. I'll start today. 41 days and counting until the lease expires. Anyone know if the front office still has the right to use the warehouse if the lease lapses? Would Elias and all his staff get evicted? Hopefully some local journalists inquire on some of these details. I think some Baltimore sports fans might be curious to know. Maybe they can rent a hotel somewhere and continue working. Anyone know what the biggest Panera Bread location is in the Baltimore metro area?
  19. I also would like to announce that I am planning to be in the Opening Day rotation for 2024. But if the O's have another spot in mind I am def open to it.
  20. Curious if there is ANY other MLB franchise that keeps the terms of the manager's contract a secret? I had never even heard of such a practice until John Angelos took over here. Maybe i'm forgetting something.
  21. How many innings do you predict each of these guys will pitch in 2024? Gray Rod career high (122 IP in majors + 41 in minors = 163 IP) Bradish career high - 168.2 IP Means career high - 155 IP (obviously pre TJ surgery) I think it's unlikely more than 2 of these guys clear 180 innings next year and even that is probably optimistic.
  22. The #1 question every journalist should be checking in about every single day now with both the state and the O's front office is "When are you guys going to sign this thing?" In addition to that, those other questions are good too.
  23. The non-tender deadline for teams this year is Friday, Nov 17. So roughly 2 weeks from now.
  24. I think if the two were on the same side all along this lease would have been signed many months ago. I think both sides have looked pretty bad as it dragged on and on.
