  1. A quick note about peak male athlete age is 27/28. No way should a team that doesn’t have unlimited resources ($) give out $30M/7+ years. Anyone hear of a player named Chris Davis. I know this is way different, but I look forward to Yankees to cont to pay a ton of money for non-contributing players for years to come. This is a one year rental. Have to give up talent to get it. Hard part is that this is the same as saving for retirement for 40 years and now it is scary to spend it. For 30 years we always were “taking talent back”. Now we switch to giving away young talent. Hard mental shift for many. Great trade!!! Not expecting anything more than 1 year.
  2. If you invest in the team, you can draw 2.5-3 million per year. Add all the ancillary revenue and if they can develop the surrounding area. Easily can spend to keep the team competitive and bring back the glory years of sustainable winning. The “new Oriole way”.
  3. They are doing some internal UCL bracing if it isn’t fully torn. Seems to be working well from a podcast I listened to earlier this Spring by the PTs who are rehabbing the test cases. A little quicker return time. However, not sure if Orioles Medical staff would consider it anyway. If it is fully torn he will be out until 2025. UCL prognosis is way better than a shoulder rotator cuff tear. MRI tomorrow will be huge.
  4. I am hoping Felix is Ok, but if not…Many will assume Cano will be closer. Wells has closed before. Would make sense if they think his arm can handle it. One issue is his propensity to give up the HR. Or am I just crazy??
  5. I am hoping for a multi year run of excellence. Meaning if we trade from out of our top 10 ranked players for some minor help, then great. If we get a real difference maker that doesn’t cost us a top 5 talent, I am good with that too. Anything else is tossing away talent for the crapshoot of a postseason. I am enjoying watching winning baseball. Not getting greedy this year with the holes in our pitching. But, I trust our GM to balance long term vs short term.
  6. I didn’t see the report: foot contusion or bone contusion? Bone contusion healing can be similar to fracture. Soft tissue with Cold Laser and other high tech treatments can heal potentially quicker.
  7. I have bought multiple pictures from Roy in the past. They all look awesome on my Orioles wall at work for all my Philly fans while getting treated. Love when the occasional O’s fan comes in. Thank you Roy for all your charity. I have all of the signatures myself, but that is an awesome set of balls for a tax right off for a fan. Enjoy whoever ends up with them.
  8. I remember a time when we “gave up” on young pitchers and they became All Stars on other teams. Maybe we can now be the team that do the same with other team’s frustrating talent. Not holding my breath, but hey, I can dream in January.
  9. Based on reading everyone else’s grades would Theo get a historical grade of an A for what he did in Boston and Chicago?? Honest question. Compare what Theo did vs Andrew Friedman did for Tampa. Meaning Friedman didn’t have the same resources that Theo had and yet built a team that almost won a WS. Both of those examples would be an A+ for me even though one didn’t win a WS. A solid A- for me and I agree I want them signed for 3+ more years. All of the issues he had to navigate around outside of the players makes it hard to give him anything below a B+. The Orioles were the definition of a dumpster fire when he took over. The only thing we had was a great ballpark. Now we have in place the foundation that will hopefully replicate the mid 60’s to the early 80’s. If we develop talent next year and add a few pieces because they are the right pieces and win 85 games next year and set up to win 90 in 2024, that will get me to an A grade. A+ will be a sub 22 year old international stud taking us to the ALCS in 2025.
  10. Look at Cleveland’s OD roster of pitchers vs the Orioles. It isn’t even close. They beat Vegas over under in early August. Hyde did something that hadn’t been done in over 120 years. How 5 writers didn’t even list him screams of the consistency of the anti-orioles bias in the media and MLB. Franconia 2nd, absolutely, but the Orioles had a winning record playing in the AL East. Max Scherzer made more money than the whole Orioles roster. I cannot believe their is not more outrage.
  11. I cannot tell you how absurd this is. The Argument is purely wrong and absurd. If you switch the Orioles in the Indians in their divisions, the Orioles win the central hands down. There were five writers who didn’t even vote for Hyde. Any writer who voted Boone ahead of Hyde should have their credentials revoked immediately!
  12. Thank you for taking the time to write this synopsis up!!! I enjoy learning about baseball history.
  13. Thank you for the AWESOME history lesson. I never knew anything about this whole post. Baseball has such an amazing history.
  14. Other than a backup catcher and a true #2/3 starter, what are we augmenting? Just curious your thoughts. With who we have in the minors on the cusp in the next year and who is already young and up now there isn’t much room. I don’t want players who you are paying for past production who will decline and block our future building blocks.
  15. I believe I read that the FCL ends this week, but as I get older I am less sure of myself and recollection is worse. Hopefully I am wrong. Even if there is no FCL they will use those same players in a simulated game I am sure.
  16. Great to see you back Roy!!! I had a patient take a picture of my Orioles wall at work this week. People are proud to be Orioles fans again, even in Phillies country. Most of the autographed pictures were from your collection from the auctions for your charities. Still haven’t framed and hung up the jerseys yet. As excited I am about Mateo, I am just floored how a no-name throw away pitchers on the staff are doing so well. Gives me a lot of hope about when above average or “elite” talent is brung up or signed. Looking forward to the next 5 years.
  17. Was Means on our opening day roster this year?? I thought he started on the IL. I debated about Mancini….his All star HR showing made him recognizeable because they told his story then. I honestly forgot about him now that he is traded…early signs of Dementia. my other issue is I know what those players ended up becoming with Finley, Shilling, Brady, Ripken brothers. Hopefully we will say the same in years to come about some of these players, with the caveat that Elias doesn’t trade away Shilling and Finley and Harnish for the worst Orioles trade in my lifetime!!!
  18. I have similar memories. First baseball memory was 79 WS. Growing up in Southern PA, 83 was awesome!!! 88 was brutal. Never want that type of a record that will never be broken. 89 was awesome from Day 1 so not as unexpected as this year. Still had national recognized stars on that team and great young players. This year I challenge anybody nationally who knew one Oriole on the opening day roster other than Cedric. 89 seemed like a team of Destiny. End was almost as heartbreaking as 82. And 79. This year I keep waiting for reality with our starting pitchers to come crashing down. We are do for some Andino type of magic at the end of the season luck.
  19. 100% agree. We have the payroll flexibility to do that now. Sign Henderson type player through his 29-31 year old age.
  20. It becomes the Rays model. When they get expensive you trade them for young players your Organization lacks depth at. Peak age for male athletes is 27/28. You give a +/- of 3 years. No more long term contract last for players over 31. Stay young and flexible with payroll. And injury insurance is always a positive.
  21. How I missed these posts from the past!!! I think we trade our surplus OFs (2) for SP that we scratch our head about that have 3+ years left on their major league contracts. Someone that the analytics think we can turn into a Wells type success. Rodriguez, Wells, Lyles (or someone like him), trade candidate, Hall, and eventually Means. That would be my guess based on patterns. We are not giving more than 3 years to a SP FA. I actually agree with that philosophy from an injury risk prospective.
  22. I really wish we had 2 dominant SP (Means and Rodriguez) and a healthy Wells, then I would believe 83 wins. I just don’t see our starters doing well against playoff contenders going forward. Really hoping you can all quote me in September about how wrong I am/was.
  23. I will keep it short. I had no problem paying my yearly subscription for all the joy it provided over the years. I haven’t visited for over 2 years. Life and the Orioles were awful. But now I am hooked again. I post infrequently, but like to read the thoughts, especially the draft and minors. Looking forward to some interesting years. Will post about injury information if warranted and I see. Here is to many more great years and people!!!!
  24. When did Dan Duquette and the dumpster diving return?? Did I miss that announcement. My fear is that turning a few players careers around this year has made our FO over optimistic in their ability to fix everyone’s “little” flaws.
