  1. Everyone sees it differently. My biggest gripe was loading the bases in the bottom of the 7th with nobody out, and not being able to score a run.
  2. Gosh, I did read it. That wasn’t your only point, though, your first statement said you don’t get why people think he’s as valuable as he is. I do. A lot of people do. The club is in much, much better shape now than when he got the job. Not just from the draft picks, but for all those reasons I mentioned. Duquette was good for the club, but he wasn’t this good. Elias has led us into the 21st century (something long, long overdue) and I think that even if he goes, what he has already put in motion will have positive effects for years to come. I hope he gets the chance to spend the payroll he wants (within reason), not be shackled by ownership, and get this team playing for all the marbles within the next year.
  3. I couldn’t disagree more with this. You think he just tanked and got the best draft picks… that’s it? Nothing about dragging the club out of the Bronze Age and into a modern framework, focusing on player development, hiring 10x more analytics people than we had, hiring 5x more international scouting people than we had… none of that? The last four years were tough to endure… but I think Elias had been exactly what we needed. As Frobby said, the Nats had high picks, but where did that get them? Our farm system has improved exponentially, and not just because of our first- and second-round picks. Could we have turned Austin Voth around ten years ago? I highly doubt it. Ten years ago, we would have let Voth go and someone else would have sorted him out. Just like Arrieta.
  4. The older I get, the more I firmly believe you should fete people while they are alive to see and appreciate it. Posthumous tributes and ceremonies are nice and all, but really only serve to benefit the families and friends of the honoree. So fair enough for Brooksie. That said, will it sell some extra tickets in the process? Well, sure.
  5. Or that if you hurry, you can wrap things up, change, and still make it back to the hotel in time for The Rockford Files.
  6. I get that. Although if you told me that the Orioles offered Odor a job as a dugout coach next year, I would be perfectly fine with that. I like his enthusiasm and fire, but would like it a lot more if he wasn’t taking up a roster spot.
  7. I have to say, my favorite part of that video is the very end where they show Baddoo’s shock that Mateo caught that ball.
  8. So you think Aguilar is some kind of Dugout Downer? They’re definitely having less fun, but that’s more to do with their losing record since that time, with some guys seriously struggling at the plate, watching the Wildcard slot drift away for good. Everyone’s having less fun, fans included.
  9. Was that a Mr. Mom reference? If so, well done.
  10. I’m just glad we didn’t “go for it” this year, like so many people on the OH Facebook page wanted. It would have been too soon, even with extra rented bats or arms we probably couldn’t beat the Yanks or Dodgers. The guys we need to step up late in the season didn’t, but this team exceeded all expectations, it’s been a great year, and I really look forward to 2023. It’s definitely the most optimistic I’ve been as an Orioles fan in a long time.
  11. I said earlier in the year that with his bat, you can’t play him at the corners, so it’s a shame he isn’t able to play shortstop where you could justify keeping him on the club. But then Mateo became that guy. I liked watching Gutierrez in the field, although Urias has looked equally good at third this year.
  12. If Mountcastle don’t show some signs of life, I feel they may need to go back to the drawing board with him. I’m just not seeing a lot there to get excited about when we’re actually in contention. In addition to the above, I’m also morbidly curious how the guys we traded away fare. So far, both Mancini and Lopez are playing at exactly a 0.0 bWAR clip for their new clubs. Hopefully Trey can turn it on in the postseason, he deserves it.
  13. If that number is close to being accurate, it will have a huge impact. Adding 4,800 hits to last year’s MLB totals would have raised the overall batting average from .244 to .273.
  14. This is based on absolutely nothing material, but the perceived bat speed and loud "pop" of that hit reminded me of what it looked/sounded like when I first watched Vladdy hit with the Jays. I hope there is more of that to come. Either way, one hell of an exciting debut.
  15. Is there somewhere to see Henderson’s bat speed from the game last night? Maybe it’s in my head (and probably is), but his hands/bat looked very fast, especially on the single he ripped in his last AB.
  16. 1-3 aren’t the problem. Mullins OPS in the second half is .831, and Rutschman and Santander are both over .900.
  17. If it was a 6-0 game I would be more inclined to leave him in, but a 2-run lead in Houston can disappear very quickly. And perhaps most of all, he can feel great about the eight innings he threw. It wouldn’t have been the same if he pitched the 9th but then gave up a couple runs (or more).
  18. I can’t believe they won this game. If Engel catches Stowers’ pop fly in foul territory, it’s over. But he drops it for an error, and then two pitches later Stowers takes Hendriks deep. Crazy.
  19. Not a player, but Buck would be another Oriole.
  20. Private Internet Access is my go-to VPN as well. The subscription also gives you access to a mobile device which also works well, since otherwise I’m geo-blocked from a lot of US newspapers and articles.
  21. What I like about elite speed like Mateo’s is that all the fielders are aware of it and they know they have to be quick/perfect with the catch and throw if they want to get him out. That puts pressure on them, and not every fielder responds well to that. The Orioles have generally been such a lead-footed team for seemingly decades that it’s great to remember what it feels like to have speed in our arsenal once again. Even if Mateo resorts to being a backup player / bench option, I love having that option.
  22. Show us on the doll where the Orioles hurt you, Keith Law. Mateo has held his own this year against the likes of Correa, Bo Bichette, Tim Anderson, J.P. Crawford, and other highly valued shortstops. I guess Law is saying his 2022 performance is a fluke, because his value has been undeniable. And he has consistently been one of the most exciting players to watch that we have had in years.
  23. Lopez had less than 70 innings in relief with the Orioles over parts of three years, and his career WAR going into this season was -1.3. Nothing with him is certain or proven. It’s like saying Ty Wigginton was a proven All-Star.
  24. My wife asks to re-watch The Wire every so many years, so I think I have seen the whole thing three or four times already. One of the best things ever made for TV.
  25. You realize Johnny Bench has the highest career WAR of any catcher to ever play the game, right? If that’s the case then I think you’re bound to be disappointed with Adley.
