I only had a chance to see him once at Aberdeen, but he showed a lot of poise on the mound and while he gave up some contact in that outing, he did a very good job of mixing his pitches and made big pitches when he needed them.

From the conversations I had with him, I got the impression that he's a great kid with a great attitude. I'm rooting for him.

6IP today giving up 3er on 5 hits and 3 walks with 5k's. The biggest concern with the outing was the

3HR's allowed.

I was concerned with the number of fly outs he was giving to clubs and now with a free swinging club such as Hickory, his being high in the strike zone cost him this game. He knows he has some work to do.

Still a proud papa!

Certainly impressive peformances in terms of innings, hits, and runs given up. Looks like he was hurt last year but I don't recall any surgery for him. Now, if only the more heralded pitchers from that draft could show something. I think it does show how guys at this age can show tremendous jumps or falls from one year to the next, whether it's injury related or not.

I was told he had an appendectomy last year. No arm or shoulder issues.

That is correct Tony.

He called me when he began to experience pains and informed me that he didn't want to tell the trainer for fear of his missing his next start. That night he was in the hospital...kid has more heart then I ever gave him credit for.

Awfully nice progress this year from David. I have to admit that until this thread was started, I wasn't even aware of him. He is setting himself up very nicely for next year, assuming he remains successful at Delmarva over the next month.

Proud papa here!

He may have put it together.

Too many FO's for my comfort level but hey! an out is an out! I remember when he faced hobgood when Norco played Hemet, he rose to the occasion.

Thanks for allowing me my 15 minutes of fame. And thanks to all the orioleshangout contributors.

Congrats Dad!

Fly balls are a bit more prevelent with off speed pitches. I don't know how many change-up this young man throws but that could be the cause of number of fly balls. Either way, he is makeing great progress. Congratulations.

Yet another solid outing for Baker, 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's. He has a 2.82 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with one start remaining. Pretty nice numbers for a 20-year old in the Sally League.

Delmarva is using a 6 man rotation and only have 5 games left. May not see him pitch again this year

Thanks for the info. If so, that puts a wrap on a very nice season for Baker. I'd assume he's a frontrunner for the Frederick rotation in 2012, at the age of 21.

Congrats to you and the best of luck to your son! Just a word of advice from a mother of a ball player.....as Agent Orange said...you have to have thick skin to read some of the posts. When things are good they are great to read but when things go south.....boy that is when the negativity starts so don't take anything personal.....everyone is going to give their opinion even if you don't like it.

Once again....best of luck to your son!

    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
    • This draft unfolded weirdly.  First with the *nix guys getting taken early and then how no defensive players got taken all draft, and then a bunch of teams reaching for OTs.  I'm pretty happy with how the draft unfolded because I think we got a player that I expected to be gone by the teens or early 20s.  I don't know what we're doing with our OL but hopefully we can maybe trade up from 62 to pick someone up.
    • I have it on dvr and I timed it four times. I got 10.75, 10.80, 10.74, and 10.78.
    • This is exactly what EDC said tonight
    • My guess is more of a safety profile than they preferred. They clearly wanted Wiggins. They ran that pick up fast. And then when you listen to the press conference, the love for the player was obvious.
