Its just math. Historically Chen fades at 90+ pitches..he was at 97 in the first at bat.You had to get him out of there.

But he didn't really fade this time after 90+ pitches. Nor has he faded every time he has gotten 90+ pitches. Those decisions should not be based on a strict pitch count rule. Chen still looked good in the 7th, pitched well in the 8th, and was the victim of bad luck. In no way was taking Chen out a clear cut decision nor would it necessarily have prevented a run from scoring anyway.

Not everything is black and white.
