Actually no. The batter has the right to the box, but in that particular circumstance the ball hit him on the elbow on a ball that was inner half AND he was leaning over the plate.

Or at least that would be my contention. You have to know the rule and hope to high heaven the umpire will give you the time of day. He probably won't.
