Orioles Discussing Four-Year Deal With Nick Markakis (Signs w/ATL)

It does since some suggest signing Markakis would limit their ability to improve elsewhere.

It just seems odd to say we don't know Markakis' worth because we don't know the O's payroll. It doesn't really impact what his production is worth. Whatever WAR value you put on Markakis, he is worth that. It doesn't really impact his market worth per se. He's worth whatever the market will pay him, regardless of whether the O's can afford it.

He is worth what he can produce. Not what someone will pay for it. Market does not determine value. Production determines his worth, an offer determines his pay.

In one sense. But sometimes when you go to the store to buy your Thanksgiving turkey, it might cost more than at other times. You pay what the market says its worth if you want to have turkey on your table on Thanksgiving.

Absolutely. Or I might buy ham.

By definition, Free Market Value is the price an informed buyer is willing to pay in a free marketplace. How the acquired asset performs before or after the purchase may inform the buyer's decision, but it doesn't impact the value..

Worth. Not Value. Price, not worth.

Sorry. Fair Market Value, not Free.
