MLB radio interview with DD regarding the Blue Jays job, he doesn't seem to understand why it didn't happen !!

How does it feel to have an owner that is willing to trade you BUT what he wants in return is more than any executive or any player has ever been traded for in LIFE?
So let's start off that Angelos' demands were absurd, take it away Dan.

Well, his demands were high.
If you believe what was reported.
For your family the opportunity to be the CEO of an organization like the Toronto Blue Jays is not something I think you're supposed to stand in the way of someone doing. I know when John Henry didn't want to lose Theo Epstein but when he had a change to go over and run the Chicago Cubs, a utility player later it was done later and you don't stand in the way of someone progressing. Here is a unique opportunity for you and your family, I'm not understanding why it's not done.
So that's the deal we should have taken also?

Dan's response

Yeah, well, that's a good question Jim, you know, I don't have the answer to that question

So, they plan for a possible succession this season and then let him go if the Blue Jays still want him. At least the O's won't be blindsided. Right now it's not the end of the world for any of the parties involved. DD will do a good job, that's one thing I'm sure of.

I was suprised by his answer. It doesn't look like much in print but I find that to be a pretty strong response by Duquette. Read between the lines and he's basically saying that Angelos should have let him go and he doesn't like the fact that he didn't. I would have expected a no comment or a more PC answer.

He's awkward.

I found his response refreshingly candid. He later said that he and Angelos have a very professional relationship, that Angelos has never denied him anything he's asked for, and he expects Angelos will continue to provide what he needs for the Orioles.

How is there room in the pen?

He got a RHP/Backup Catcher he is targeting?

He is probably talking about a reliever that would sign a minor league contract and go to Norfolk but has some major league experience.

He got his backup catcher in Arencibia.

I just heard it and I agree.

I didn't hear the stuff after but that response along with the interview questions leading up to it was simply stunning. Awkward or not. I guess he tells it like it is. That question could have been diffused rather easily.

Dan could also be running up against budget restrictions from ownership. As long as we're speculating, that could be a reason why some deals weren't done.
What are these deals that could have been done but weren't? Should we have traded for Kemp? Upton? Signed Melky? Given Cruz 4 years? Any real impact bat was going to cost a Bundy or Gausman at least, or 4/50 M +. Did we miss out on Seth Smith because Dan was distracted by TOR?
