HHP: MASN/Nats/Orioles case (Inside the Courtroom)

MLB should have stepped in and kept the Nationals/Expos in Montreal. The Nats have been nothing but a thorn in the Orioles side since they got here. And MLB has been wanting a team back there ever since.

Do you feel the same way about the Ravens, should the NFL stepped in and kept them in Cleveland?

It would have save MD taxpayers $200 million for a new stadium, not to mention the 75 million dollar bribe to Art Modell.

The current en vogue position of looking at public stadium funding as a pure drain is just as overly simplistic as the view that vastly overestimates economic impact.

That has nothing to do with the situation.

The OP made a claim that a sport team, should have stayed in their city and not moved to another team.

Which is exactly, what the Ravens did, they were a team that moved from one city to another city.

8 games vs 81. Both cities can support that. Bet the Redskins weren't too torn up when the Colts snuck out in the middle of the night either.

No. Especially since they didn't step in to keep the Colts in Baltimore.

It's all about where you want to allocate tax dollars, and the wild exaggerations the teams makes about impact. I think you basically have to look at as an economic zero, neither good nor bad, but fairly evaluating if a stadium is really the best use for the better part of a $billion in taxes.

I doubt they really cared one way or another.

Remember, the Redskins are the 3rd most profitable franchise in the NFL and have no problem selling tickets, or merchandising.

This was when Gibbs was here and the Redskins were pretty successful on the field, too.

Apples and oranges, it is about revenue and revenue sharing. The NFL has sharing while MLB doesn't on the same scale. The Ravens moving in didn't dramatically cut the PG Native Americans revenue. The PG Native Americans revenue stayed the same after Ravens moved while Peter had to fight hard to keep the Orioles viable.

Seriously, you need to do better than that.

When the Senators came to DC in 2005, Forbes estimated the Orioles were worth 359 million dollars.

In 2015, the Orioles franchise was estimated to be worth 1 billion dollars.

And the $641 million increase occurred after Angelos wiped the floor in his deal with MLB.

And the Ravens have no problems selling tickets. But it's pretty obvious the Nationals have hurt the Orioles attendance. So really, the NFL and MLB isn't comparable in this situation.

From MLB's point of view the 2004 Orioles + Expos drew 43k a game. The 2016 Orioles + Nationals draw 57k a game.
